$10 cell phone: No 3G, no GPS, not even a screen

So, you really want a cell phone that just makes calls? Check out this unlocked, $10 GSM handset that dumps the fancy 3G data access, contact books, and Web browsers—heck, even the display is gone.

Available now in U.S. retail and convenience stores, the candy-bar style Hop1800 comes with...well, a 12-key numeric keypad, Talk and End keys, a speaker grille, a microphone, and a SIM card slot (you'll need a working SIM card—AT&T, T-Mobile, or pre-paid will do—to make calls).

Here's how it works: You pick the thing up, you dial, you talk. Oh, and you can listen, too—and don't forget to press the End key when you're done chatting. Since the Hop1800 lacks a display, you'll have to dig deep and remember how you used that old landline phone in your kitchen (the one without caller ID).

Looking for a simple phone that isn't quite as simple as the Hop1800? Check out Gina's recent post about Pantech Breeze, an easy-to-use "boomer" phone (and yes, it has a display) on AT&T.

As for the posters that say this is a cheap penny stock on the pinks. Wow, It looks like a good time to dive in cheap if you are a stock investor. It may soar like a eagle.

Nowhere does the generation gap show more than reading the posts on the $10 cell phone. All those gadgets to avoid talking to someone and the high price $ you pay for that. As a high school teacher for the past 35 years I have definitely seen a big change in teenagers behavior in so many areas but basically they are spoiled, lazy and do not want to be inconvenienced. Technology has created a good part of it. This phone is a good idea and no it is not a toy for small children as some have suggested. I will buy one because it will be great in an emergency and not cost me over $50 month to go along with the $75 cable TV! Also, if you are unable to remember phone numbers put them on paper and listen to what's going on in YOUR education.

Hop-on has the best phone for the money on the international market. This is a excellent phone without a binding contract. This will be a huge success !
