Must-have home theater amenities

Sure, you've got your 55-inch screen, Blu-ray player, and a 7.1-channel speaker system—but what about authentic theater seats? Or the marquee and ticket booth, for that matter? Help is on the way.

Electronic House just published a guide to all the other accessories you'll need for your full-on home theater—that is, besides a universal remote, an eye-catching component rack, and $100 HDMI cables (which you should only be paying $10 for).

For example, what's the first thing you see when you walk into a movie theater? The concession stand, of course, and Electronic House has links to all the goodies, including popcorn makers, wall-mounted candy cases, soda machines, and—for the truly committed—a full-size, New York-style hot dog cart.

Then there's the matter of seating—after all, who wants to suffer on a folding chair when Lawrence of Arabia (all four hours of it) is on the menu? For its part, Electronic House recommends the Tristar Lounger, which comes in one-, two-, and three-seat versions, complete with cup holders. Oh, and don't forget these cinema-inspired (if somewhat garish) area rugs.

While I like the idea of a row of theater seats in my living room, the seven foot-tall ticket booth might be going a little too far, as well as these working marquees and life-size statues of Jack Sparrow and his celluloid buddies.

Be sure to check out the feature and slideshows over at Electronic House—and if you're interested, I found this online cinema superstore complete with movie posters, popcorn bags, and even DVD "intros" (with customizable logos and trivia questions) that you can play before your feature presentation.

And here's my favorite: Authentic Dolby Digital and DTS plaques for the living room wall. Kinda cheesy, I know—but I want 'em, bad.

That Pre-Show "entertainment" is nothing more than a marketing $cheme that major theatre chains use to make more money - which I can't blame them. They are fully aware of thier customers complaints/dislikes on the matter but the money from the commercial adds, etc. means there here to stay. I know this first hand because I am an x-Regal Cinema Manager.
