Sprint drops Samsung Instinct price to $129

Looks like we might have a touchscreen price war on our hands. A little over a week, ago, Apple announced that the iPhone 3G would sell for as little as $199, and now Sprint says its iPhone competitor—the touchscreen Instinct—will go for just $129 after a mail-in rebate.

That's a pretty steep price drop, considering that just a few months ago, Sprint reps were talking about price tags in the $250 range. And just last week, word leaked that the Instinct price was dropping to $199, matching the price of the just-announced 8GB iPhone 3G.

Keep in mind, however, that you'll have to sign a two-year contract for the Instinct (as you will with the iPhone), and the rate plans ain't cheap. For individuals, combined voice and data plans begin at $70 a month (including 450 minutes and unlimited messaging and data), while family plans go for $130 and up (with 1,500 minutes and unlimited SMS/data).

Still, the $129 post-rebate price tag certainly sweetens the pot, given the Instinct's impressive (if not quite iPhone-killing) touchscreen interface, speedy 3G support, and access to streaming video and music services over Sprint's cellular network. (The new iPhone won't be able to tap into AT&T's video service or the iTunes Store over HSDPA, or at least not at launch.)

The Instinct is slated to go on sale June 20.

So, anyone choosing the Instinct over an iPhone 3G?

I got the Instinct and I love it. Sure it lacks some things and I wi----- looked a little nicer, but I love it! And I'm a big iPhone follower! I absolutely love the iPhone, but there are just somethings the iPhone was lacking in.
