Attention, tennis fans: If you've got a MediaFlo-enabled handset like the Vu on AT&T or Verizon's LG Voyager, you can follow the action from the All England Club—all 119 hours of it—live, on your phone. Not included: a magnifying glass for seeing the ball.
According to MediaFlo USA, the entire tournament—including the men's and women's singles finals—will be broadcast live on two mobile MediaFlo channels: ESPN Mobile TV and NBC 2Go. For the early rounds this week, that means up 10 hours of tennis a day (although if you're planning on watching all of it, you'd better keep your charger handy).
This will actually be the second year that Wimbledon is broadcast live over MediaFlo's mobile TV service, which launched early last year on a handful of Verizon Wireless phones and this year on AT&T.
Mobile TV users usually get short shrift in terms of live sports coverage. There's still not much in terms of, say, live NFL or MLB action (good luck watching an NFL game live on your phone), but the needle is starting to move; for example, MediaFlo users got four days of live U.S. Open golf coverage earlier this month, while NASCAR has been getting some decent mobile video exposure over the past year.
Of course, watching tennis on a tiny phone screen will be a challenge—indeed, keeping your eye on the ball can be tough even on a standard TV set. Still, I'm guessing that the ESPN and NBC mobile channels will at least bump up the scoreboard so you can tell who's up a break.
Stuck at your PC? You can watch live Wimbledon video at Wimbledon.com—although only the Windows version of Internet Explorer is supported.
