AT&T does it again, posting and then yanking a Web page advertising free Wi-Fi access for iPhone users—but not before touching off a firestorm of headlines.
Ars Technica spoke to an AT&T rep Friday morning, who confirmed that the page (which read, in part, "We know what's hot!") was "posted in error" and that "we have not made any announcement regarding free Wi-Fi and the iPhone."
As CNET points out, this is the second time that AT&T has mistakenly posted the "free Wi-Fi for the iPhone" notice on its Web site. Anyone want to take odds on a third?
The saga began back in May—the first time that AT&T accidentally posted the free Wi-Fi offer. Delighted iPhone users flocked to AT&T hotspots and Starbucks locations, where they (briefly, at least) found free Wi-Fi for the taking.
But it didn't last for long. Days later, AT&T yanked the service, then turned it on once more before switching it off for good.
At the time, AT&T told the New York Times that the carrier would eventually offer free Wi-Fi for the iPhone; however, a rep declined Friday to confirm that promise to a CNET reporter.

These mistakes and lack of explanations are indicative of AT&T's poor customer service philosophy; as long as they have an exclusive on the iPhone.....the customer is disposable.
