Confirmed: Apple event slated for Sept. 9

The long-rumored, now-confirmed event will take place next week in San Francisco. The tagline? "Let's Rock." Get ready for new iPods, people.

Ars Technica snagged an invite for the event, which looks an awful lot like an iPod display screen and features that silhouetted jumping iPod guy.

Of course, we've been hearing about a possible Apple event for weeks now, and the now-slated Sept. 9 event comes almost a year to the day of last year's iPod Touch unveiling.

The prevailing wisdom is that Apple will refresh its iPod line, including revamps and "pricing and capacity changes" for the iPod Shuffle, the Nano, and perhaps a significant price break on the Touch (the 8GB model now sells for $299).

Indeed, many are expecting a radically redesigned Nano, which could potentially go back to the tall-and-thin design of the first- and second-generation models, complete with a wider screen that you could watch in landscape mode. Spy shots of a purported case for the new Nano have thrown gas on the fire.

The big question: What about new MacBooks, which have been getting a lot of chatter throughout the summer? Unknown, for now—the Apple event invite says nothing about a refreshed laptop line, although Apple's invites never really say much of anything.

In any case, tune in right here next Tuesday at 10 a.m. PST for the scoop; also, keep your eyes peeled for a rumor roundup, which I'll post before the week is out.

So, got any Apple predictions? Let us know.

One year product redesign cycles only proves that Apple is a fashion accessory nothing more. Music is music not fancy screens.Phones are for phone calls nothing more. Ipods are a waste of money..I got a 2 gig player for $40 dollars...how much does Apple charge for that space?

NEW IPOD!!!! YAY!!! I would love it if they made like a 5gb ipod touch. I have always wanted one but my mom wont get me 1 so maybe just maybe if u put your 8gb touch to like 230$ my mom would buy me one. I wish prices would go down. But i understand that apple need to make money. I suggest you make a smaller macbook and sell it for like 200$ I think it would be GREAT!!!!!

I think Apple will be coming out with an e-book to compete with Amazon's. I've heard Apple has been buying book publishing rights for a while... The scientifically impossible I do right away The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer

The last few releases have been complete crap so I'm hoping for something better this time around. They've installed internet into the touch and the iPhone so I'm kinda hoping that they'll add that into the new 'regular' iPods. I'm also hoping that they'll use a completely new design for this next generation because they've only ever had 2 or3 different choices nw at one time. And color. They should offer all iPod's in every color of the rainbow. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!! LOWER THE FRICKIN PRICE!!!!

The iPhone has a pretty nice camera... why not add that to the iPod Touch? And, yeah, there should be an upgrade policy. I have a Touch that is less than a year old, and it may be outdated or obsolete in a week... that's a shame. I'd trade it in and pay a surcharge for the next model, but I won't spend $300 on something I basically already own, regardless of a few new features.

ipods are just too expensive. Even the nano drives a hard bargain. If they would drop the price, I would definately get one but for some reason, everyone thinks the ipod is the best thing out there when there are equal or better deals for the money. Just drop the price, and way more people would be interested. (I'm thinking $100 for the 4, $130 for the 8).

the itouch needs a camera... and ones with decent picture quality of around 8 or 10 megapixels. It would also warrant more memory, like someone else mentioned to be able to hold music, videos, and pictures. Also, the itouch has internet (WiFi) capabilities, but it'd be nice to somehow get a service to be able to get the internet anywhere, like the iphone. I guess the iphones switchover from WiFi to the phone service, whenever there isn't a WiFi connection available. This would enable me to be able to plug my ipod into my car stereo and be able to access applications I downloaded like Pandora, which would be pretty sweet to have. Either that, or Pandora should hook up with Sirius/XM and see about getting Pandora into cars.

I wish they came out with an Ipod with a massive hardrive like 300 gigs that you could just fill and fill, i have a huge record collection and my 160 gig is nearly filled i love being able to have room to put more and more stuff on there, a laptop with a 500 gig hardrive would be sweet too.

Yawn, same thing happens every year. Price drop on old Ipods everybody buys them then out of the blue apple has a new product. Zune is better anyways.

Solar cell under the screen? Built in laser projector? Object levitator?

Seems like i remember that Apple forecast reduced margins for this quarter and referred to major new products being announced. Assuming that the reduced margins are due to introduction expenses, I expect something much bigger than new iPods. The most significant thing i can imagine would be a major price drop in macs. It makes sense to increase market share while Vista is still being avoided.
