Confirmed: Apple event slated for Sept. 9

The long-rumored, now-confirmed event will take place next week in San Francisco. The tagline? "Let's Rock." Get ready for new iPods, people.

Ars Technica snagged an invite for the event, which looks an awful lot like an iPod display screen and features that silhouetted jumping iPod guy.

Of course, we've been hearing about a possible Apple event for weeks now, and the now-slated Sept. 9 event comes almost a year to the day of last year's iPod Touch unveiling.

The prevailing wisdom is that Apple will refresh its iPod line, including revamps and "pricing and capacity changes" for the iPod Shuffle, the Nano, and perhaps a significant price break on the Touch (the 8GB model now sells for $299).

Indeed, many are expecting a radically redesigned Nano, which could potentially go back to the tall-and-thin design of the first- and second-generation models, complete with a wider screen that you could watch in landscape mode. Spy shots of a purported case for the new Nano have thrown gas on the fire.

The big question: What about new MacBooks, which have been getting a lot of chatter throughout the summer? Unknown, for now—the Apple event invite says nothing about a refreshed laptop line, although Apple's invites never really say much of anything.

In any case, tune in right here next Tuesday at 10 a.m. PST for the scoop; also, keep your eyes peeled for a rumor roundup, which I'll post before the week is out.

So, got any Apple predictions? Let us know.

"-I'd also like to hear about hard drive-based iPhones and iPod touches. Maybe that would help a little bit with the price break, seeing as hard drives are a lot cheaper to make than flash memory." I'm sorry, but I don't think that's going to happen. Apple doesn't make crap. Sure, their stuff is expensive, but it isn't crap. If you want a crappy hard drive based phone, ask Microsoft. (I'm not a mac die-hard, but on the other hand I recognize how they don't waste time on crappy ideas. I like that mindset.)

i think its really stupid how the iphone is so much more than the ipod touch when the only difference is that the iphone has a phone.

I would like to see a memory increase on the Touch. I would like to get one, but for less money, I could get a Classic with a lot more memory. Other than that, price decreases would be great. I would love to see what Apple would come up with for a MacBook redesign as well.

Apple should have an exchange/upgrade policy, so that those that have previous, and perhaps outdated, ipods and macbooks, can keep up to their fast paced 'upgrades'. I would LOVE an ipod touch, but my nano, (which I still adore) works great, and the money I would have to sheck out is just not worth it.

I'd like to see an iPod with a lyrics feature. I imagine that would take some major redesigning of the screen, however, and i doubt they'll do it. I just think it'd be cool to see the lyrics scroll at the bottom of the screen if you wanted them too. There is,after all,an option to add lyrics in iTunes...

What about that unlimited iTunes download deal? What happened to that?

new ipods? just what i wanted to hear! i can't wait! i hope they have more memory on the ipod touches and for a lower price. & whoever said a hard-drive based ipod touch would be a crappy idea, it's not that bad of an idea. if apple is so great, they should be able to make an efficient touch using a hard-drive instead of flash. it would be cheaper. don't criticize ideas. these are just thoughts even if they don't come to fruition. but yea, can't wait til the 9th to see what all apple is bringing to the table this year.

Ive heard rumors about a new iPod Touch also. New design but not sure of the features, there are even leaked pictures of it in a Best Buy ad.

I predict that they will come out with earphones that aren't so annoying. Maybe we won't even need earphones to listen to our music. what about that? :) and i love their iPods so far so i am super excited! =]]]

    Unless it's a 500GB iPhone, I'm not interested. I'd settle for a 500GB iPod, I guess.

This actually pisses me off. I had just bought a new nano 3rd generation. It seems that you just cant keep up with apple anymore. The only improving I could see is more battery life and the hopeful thinking of a cheaper ipod. But it looks like I wont be buying anything from apple for a long long while.

I hope Apple finally decides to use static memory on their high capacity IPod. Maybe they already do and I am just ignorant. I am on my second one and the reliability is not what I expect from Apple. I am already considering switching over but unfortunatelty for me is headache to do so.
