Behold the just-announced QuietHome Door THX, from the same people who brought you THX-certified drywall (and no, I'm totally not kidding).

This 241-pound, 2.25 inch-thick portal is, of course, no ordinary door (or at least, I sure hope not). Built with "internally-damped, multi-layer, QuietWood-based construction," the QuietHome Door THX is designed specifically for high-end home theaters and commercial studios (I guess using it for the den is probably overkill).

OK, so how quiet is it? Well, according to QuietHome's press release, standard hollow-core doors have an STC (or "sound transmission class") rating of 15—which, according to this online chart, means you can pretty much hear anything and everything ("most sentences clearly understood'). The QuietHome Door THX boosts that number up to 51, which translates to "loud speech essentially inaudible, music can be heard faintly but bass notes disturbing"—so not completely soundproof, but good enough for a home theater.

Want the ultimate in soundproofing? Then use two of these bad boys with three feet of dead air in-between; that'll get you an STC rating of 80, which "effectively blocks most airborne noise sources"—perfect for blasting "The Matrix" in the dead of night.

Naturally, the price tag for a QuietHome Door THX is pretty steep: anywhere from $1,495 to $2,495, depending on the size.

And I know what you're asking yourself—what about a QuietHome THX-certified doormat? Coming soon, we can only hope.

I live in a condo, so I'll never enjoy a good home theater system. Ohh well!
