Spy shot: Is this the new MacBook Pro?

Just hours before Apple's big notebook event Tuesday, some convincing (albeit fuzzy) photos of a glossy MacBook Pro have emerged – complete with a glass trackpad.

Engadget posted the spy shots late Monday, which then sparked another round of details from blogger John Gruber at Daring Fireball (who was the first to predict that Apple would make notebook announcements today), who claims that the snapshots are authentic—and that the new trackpad isn't only glass, but also a big button, a la the BlackBerry Storm. (When it'll act as display as well remains to be seen.) Plus, bad news: No matte-finish screens for the new MacBook Pros, according to Gruber. (Get ready for glare city).

Also, in terms of that rumored $899-$999 MacBook: The prevailing wisdom now (backed up by Gruber) is that instead of a new, sub-$1,000 MacBook, we'lll get a $100 price drop for the current 2.1GHz MacBook from $1099 to $999, and that it'll lack any new features—bummer. Meanwhile, the $899 Apple part number that had the Web buzzing may apparently be (word has it, at least) a 24-inch LED Cinema Display, not a notebook or tablet. That said, redesigned MacBooks (above the $1,000 mark) and a beefed-up Air should be on tap, Gruber predicts.

Both Engadget and Daring Fireball have details on supposed configurations and prices; I'll leave that for you to discover. After all, we'll be getting the final word from Steve Jobs himself today at 10 a.m. PST, and I'll have a full report shortly afterward. Stay tuned.

I'm happy that I'm not using Macs. So much hype, so many expectations, and for what? A new line of products? C'mon people, get a life...

I hope they do lower their price. That means other places will lower their prices too.
