AT&T survey: What's missing from your iPhone 3G?

The new survey asks users to rank the top five features they'd like added to their iPhone 3Gs, including picture messaging, cut and paste, Flash support, and turn-by-turn directions. When (and if) we'll actually get said features is another question.

AppleInsider got its hands on the latest survey, which is apparently a follow-up to a similar e-mail that went out shortly after the iPhone 3G launch in July.

The e-mail asks users to "indicate the FIVE features that would be most important to you to have on the iPhone 3G," and most of the options are ones we've heard before—indeed, all the items on the survey are already listed on Pleasefixtheiphone.com, the iPhone "wish list" site that I blogged about last week.

Some examples: the ability to read/compose e-mail in landscape mode, unlocking the iPhone for use with other carriers, a user-replaceable battery, more storage, Flash support for Safari, video recording, contact searching (already implemented in firmware 2.0), document editing, and the one missing feature that everyone's clamoring for: cut and paste.

As AppleInsider correctly points out, the AT&T survey doesn’t necessarily mean that any of the listed features are actually on the way for the iPhone. As we've seen many times before, when it comes to deciding what features to add or tweak on the iPhone 3G, Apple tends to go its own way.

Consider the early reports for the just-seeded iPhone firmware 2.2 beta, which apparently enables Google Street View and in-line audio accessories, but (as far as developers can tell, at least) skips such oft-requested features as cut and paste, picture messaging, and background app notifications (a feature promised months ago by Apple but not listed in the AT&T survey).

Personally, I'm glad AT&T is at least asking iPhone users what they want out of their handsets; that said, it'd be nice if Apple listened, too. Guess we'll find out once iPhone firmware 2.2 hits iTunes.

I would like to see a copy/paste feature between apps. The abillity to select all type in a line and copy for use with another apps would be nice for sharing URL's etc.

Telephone a specified number with location after polling and after a rapid deceleration (accident). Allow use of IPhone as a monitor for a 12V camera via bluetooth.

Apple does not need to listen to there customer they have so many fanboys that if they released a rock there would be lines for it

I am astounded at what a piece of junk the iphone is as a telephone, I get dropped calls all the time, big areas of no signal and no help whatsoever from either Apple or AT&T. I bought my iphone four weeks before 3G was launched and up until that time the phone worked fine, soon as 3G came out the iphone was worthless other than as a great camera, an alarm and a diary. I bought it to replace my old Nextel but I've found that I'm walking around with two phones which is worthless

I agree with the last post on flash. Besides flash sucks resources and is flakey enough on desktops... I don't need my phone crashing just because some whacked out developer is tricking up a web site or trying to capture more information about me.

Let's see: Flash Support, Java Support, MMS, Better Camera (More Megs, Flash, Auto-Focus), Copy and Paste, Better Battery Life, More Stability (Less Glitches). I would also not only like to see Apple make some improvements, but AT&T as well. As far as I'm concerned, AT&T has one of the worst networks around. Verizon and Alltel have THE BEST networks in Michigan. I would like to say it's because of their CDMA technology. I just get too many dropped calls and too many distorted calls with AT&T. When I had Verizon, I NEVER ONCE had a dropped call!! With AT&T, I drop calls every day! It's almost normal now. AT&T really needs to either triple or quadruple the number of cell towers they have or deploy 3G EVERYWHERE.

I would love a longer battery life. I can barely go for 12 hours without recharging. Sucks because I work 12 hour shifts and if I do much talking on break then its dead when I get off work. :(
