More than a month after unveiling the first touchscreen BlackBerry, Verizon finally reveals the Storm's official release date, along with a price tag that puts it squarely in competition with the iPhone 3G.

So, here's the news: The Storm will be available at Verizon Wireless stores and on Verizon's Web site starting next Friday, Nov. 21, for $199 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract.

The new BlackBerry caps off a crazy (crazy exciting, that is) five-plus months of blockbuster phone debuts, which started in July with the iPhone 3G and continued with T-Mobile's Android-powered G1, the touchscreen Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro on Sprint, and Sony Ericsson's touchscreen Xperia X1 (which Chris just reviewed).

I know plenty of people who've been holding off buying anything until the Storm comes out, and based on the early hands-on impressions, the Storm does indeed look like a force to be reckoned with; the clickable "ClickThrough" touchscreen has earned particularly high marks.

So, should you save your pennies for the Storm? Stay tuned for my full review, coming soon.

New thing to say- get a Storm. Verizon is miles ahead of AT&T in terms of call quality, dependability, customer service- (I've dealt with both)- AT&T is horrible, Vz is about average for a large corporation: kind of slow, but they try. I'm gonna try it out, probably going to get it in January when my Vz contract for my current phone expires.

Besides the G1 this looks like the first phone that can truly stand up to the iPhone.

I absolutely love my LG Dare though, not sure if the Storm has much more to offer than this. Considering it though.

Having been a Blackberry user since before they actually had phones in them, I was one of the techie Geeks who stood in line to get my paws on an first generation iPhone (and happily boxed and returned it within the 2 week window). I then evaluated the iPhone 3G for it's ability to be managed into Enterprise Microsoft Exchange environments (and that phone is now my girlfriends favorite iPod)... I'm holding out for the new Blackberry due early next year that will incorporate a touch screen WITH a full QWERTY keyboard...without doubt the best of both worlds AND it's a blackberry.... As for Starzstuff, AT&T doesn't require a deposit unless your credit sucks...it's not just a random thing...

Since it has no keyboard, I expected this device to be slimmer. I prefer the iPhone.
