Netflix to stop renting HD DVDs next month

Will the boys in Blu have to pry your HD DVD player from your cold, dead hands? Well, bad news: You can still snap up cheap HD DVDs from the likes of Amazon and Second Spin, but come December 15, you won't be renting them from Netflix anymore.

Hacking Netflix (among other HD DVD renters, including me) got this sad e-mail from the movies-by-mail giant yesterday, which notes that on December 15, any remaining HD DVD movies in your queue will automatically be replaced by standard DVDs.

The news shouldn't come as a surprise; Netflix announced way back in February that it would phase out HD DVD rentals in favor of Blu-ray. Indeed, a little more than a week after Netflix went Blu, Toshiba went ahead and killed off HD DVD for good.

So, what's an HD DVD diehard to do? Well, there's always Amazon, which is selling its remaining HD DVDs on the cheap; many titles are going for less than $8. Other sources include Second Spin and, of course, eBay.

Anyone still hanging on to their old HD DVD deck?

I really hope that the homebrew community from the original PSP moves over to a new PSP as easily as they moved to the original.

Very cool, especially if you have a touchscreen. You are right about the resolution quality. But if Sony comes out with a PSP with sliding controls and 2 analog controls, it woild fly off the shelves!!!! Danny :)

Actually, I hope it DOES NOT have a touchscreen. I could see too many poor quality games come out for it, BUT it would probably double sales, soooooo... think about it, for every good game on the itunes app store, there are ten bad ones. I don't want this to happen for the psp.
