Flying cross-country during the holidays? Get ready for delays—and that means long stretches of boredom in airports. Don’t leave home without this handy treasure map—or treasure wiki, to be more precise—of hard-to-find power outlets in the biggest terminals.
Lifehacker found
this wiki built by Microsoft evangelist Jeff Sandquist, and it's an invaluable—and ever-evolving—guide to pinpointing AC outlets in worldwide airports, from Albuquerque to Zurich.
What I love about Sandquist's AirPower Wiki is that it reads (in places, at least) like the walkthough of an adventure game. Take, for example, this clue for finding power outlets at O'Hare: "If your gate has a water fountain, look underneath it. There should be an outlet with one open socket. It might not be near your gate, but there's normally a nice seat right next to it." Cool—and are there health packs under the water fountains, too?
Another gem: Tips for getting juice out of the ancient outlets in La Guardia's decaying Delta terminal. "Don't forget the technician's secret: wiggle that plug!"
You'll also find hints about where to find for-pay power stations, as well as terminals with the best free and paid Wi-Fi reception.
Great stuff—and if you've got the inside scoop on where to find power in your local airport, don't forget to contribute.
