Obama claims to be Mac, but spotted with a Zune

Our president-elect professes to be a card-carrying Machead, yet here he is, reportedly working out in the gym with a Zune—yes, the Microsoft Zune—in his pocket. They're already calling it Zunegate.

City Paper reporter Neal Santos broke the scandalous story earlier this week, after spotting Obama in a Philadelphia gym during his morning workout. Santos (who admits picking up the pace on own his treadmill to keep up with our next commander-in-chief) casually looked over and … well, he swears up and down that "from what I saw, [Obama] was using a Zune."

Zut alors!

Now, as Gizmodo points out, our POTUS-to-be is supposedly a Mac user—but the Zune desktop software (which you'd need to sync playlists or podcasts) is Windows-only.

So, what's the deal? Was he just borrowing the Zune from Michelle or a member of his Secret Service detail (as Santos suggests in a follow-up post)? Was Santos just plain mistaken? Or—is Obama a closet Windows junkie? Are we talking cover-up here?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Quick poll: Which flavor of laptop would you rather see in the Oval Office—Windows or Mac? Fire away below.

Update: Obama's camp fires back, says he uses an iPod. Where are Woodward and Bernstein when you need them?

I am concerned that Obama supports the Evil Empire of Apple. He should be an Open Source Linux supporter if he's all about HOPE. Maybe we can get him to wipe out his iPod's evil firmware and replace it with Rockbox, then move on to wiping his Mac of all traces of Max OSX and replacing it with Penguin HOPE!

i would consider myself a moron if i seriously thought it mattered which operating system the oval office used. Politics is legal crime.

Okay, I must admit I feel just a little bit dumb responding to this, but here goes. Has anyone considered that maybe, just MAYBE, he is a MAC user and still using Zune? I am a serious Mac user and I have the parallel software so I can also access Windows. Although I love Macs and strongly prefer them over PCs, there are some software out there that I want that is only Windows compatible so I'm forced to be somewhat of a hybrid. Regarding what I'd prefer used in the White House, I'd definitely say the Mac! Okay, let me turn my brain back on now...

There sure are a lot of idiots using computers. Of course, there's an equally good number of idiots using macs. Using a certain product doesn't make you superior to anyone. If you think it does, then it would appear that you are one of the downs-syndrome affected people that I just mentioned.

He should go with Linux. MS and MAC are both pirates.

He is not my president, to be clear. As for him being a Mac user, not surprising. The way I see it, Macs are Democrats as where PCs are Republicans. On the PC freedom it your utmost guarantee, you can anything and everything easily and quickly, though of course if you're a dumb-4ss you may lose everything. On the Mac, to be sure dumb-4sses are okay you can't do anything and everything is extremely burdenous and without ease. Similar to how these Liberals want to undermine our freedoms for the myth of "global warming" or to ensure equality while revoking the rights of others. Republicans on the other hand are about smaller government and individual freedoms with individual responsibility. Having confirmation that Obama is a Mac user and proud of it disgusts me more than anything, but really, should I be surprised? No.

Is this seriously what we are talking in regards to our next president. Who f-ing cares what type of mp3 player the guys uses? It's called freedom of choice and honestly, there is much better stuff to talk about than this petty crap. Get a freaking life.

I'm not an Obama fan. I didn't vote for him. I recently discovered that Obama is an Avid Macintosh User (AMU). It now appears that Obama can make some smart decisions. Windows users don't understand that We Mac Users (WMU) like to visit Windows Products (Zune) just to make sure that WMU's are seeing what we are SAYING NO TO. "You are either With Us, or you use a Windows Product" me...............2008 g5 2.7ghz quad.

Of course he uses a Mac. Just fits with his forward thinking approach to life and refusal to bow down to the old boring status quo. I would love to see an iMac in the Oval office.

I voted for him, so as long as I get the president I want in the White House, I don't really care about his preference in brand names of computer technology; however he won't be taking either to the White House...strictly forbidden.

I swear, you commentators and news guys need to get a life!! So our next President, Obama uses some electronic gizmos.. SO WHAT!!!? Let's go out and take some pics and make comments on people struggling out there to make ends meet. You will then be doing your public a great service... Try that during the new year.

I think a person who can't form a proper sentence shouldn't even be voting. Especially when they double post.

Never mind that. McCain is still trying to hook up an 8-track player in his car.

Finally, a Mac president! Let's hope he changes over all the DoD's servers to Mac Minis...
