A new PlayStation Portable was widely expected during Sony's E3 press conference today; the only question was how new it would be. The answer? It's thinner and lighter all right, but otherwise pretty much the same. Bummer.

Set for release in September, the new PSP will reportedly be 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original, and it will also boast longer battery life and shorter load times—a development that should come as a relief to PSP gamers who've been suffering through lengthy pauses during games. You'll also get a TV-out port for watching your games on a bigger screen, support for UMD movie discs, and a choice of three colors:  the standard "piano black," "ice silver," and a white, "Star Wars"-themed variation. Otherwise, the revamped PSP comes with the same 4.3-inch display and more or less the same controls. Not bad, but not exactly the extreme makeover that many were hoping for. Each of the new PSP models will cost you about $200 (with a game or two included in the package).

well, i was holding out because i thought it would have maybe internal memory, or a psp2 version with improved graphics. but this is crap. the only thing worth it is the tv out. and even then its nothing but a minor upgrade.
