First iPhone Update Fixes Bugs, Not Much Else

The first software update for the iPhone hit Apple's servers last night, but if you're pining for a truckload of new features and functionality...well, you'll have to keep waiting.

Software Update 1.0.1 for the iPhone is really just a collection of bug fixes and patches for Safari security holes (including, hopefully, the massive Safari security exploit discovered earlier this month). So far, I haven't discovered much that's different in the new version, although some users are reporting greater Safari stability and faster load times for mail messages. I'll keep an eye out for other changes.

The update falls well short of the breathless predictions of wireless analyst Mike Abramsky, who lit up the blogosphere yesterday with word of an iPhone patch that would include everything from iChat and location-based services to MMS and home networking. "The sky's the limit," said Abramsky, who'd just had a meeting with Apple's marketing VP. I'll have what he's drinking.

Well, this is what i wanted. I wanted a quick update that would fix the security problems. Theres no point in releasing a bunch of new features with security problems still present. I bet Apple wont release any new featurs until all the bugs are fixed.

Is ANY phone really worth $600.00 when there are much less expensive quality phones available? Now that the maker of the Iphones see people are willing to pay so much for a phone, you can bet the next one will cost even more than $600.00. J.

Hey Ben are you suppost to be a journalist? Here is a quote: "Abramsky speculated that upcoming iPhone software updates would include new widgets, peer-to-peer applications (chat, picture messaging, social networking), location-based services, MMS support, home networking, and possibly some integration with Mac OS X Leopard." Mike never said this patch would include all this. He did state however that this functionality would appear in upcoming patches.
