Steelers edge the Cardinals in Madden Bowl '09

It'll be a close one—28-24, to be exact—but according to the latest version of Madden NFL, Ben Rothlisberger will lead the Steelers to their second Super Bowl victory in four years.

As Planet Xbox 360 reports, this year's Madden NFL-simulated Super Bowl started off slowly, with the Steelers holding Kurt Warner and the hungry Arizona Cardinals to just a single touchdown in the first half.

The AI-controlled Steeler offense made the most of it, with Big Ben hitting Santonio Holmes for a 10-yard TD catch in the first quarter, followed by a seven-point scramble by Willie Parker and a 13-yard reception by Hines Ward, good for a 21-7 halftime lead.

But as we learned last weekend in their NFC Championship over the resurgent Philadelphia Eagles (better luck next time, Iggles!) … you can't count out the Cards. The red-hot birds traded touchdowns with the Steelers in the third period and threatened to take the lead in the fourth after a TD grab by an ever-dangerous Larry Fitzgerald (how many players does it take to tackle that guy?) and a Neil Rackers field goal, pulling to within three.

In the end, though, it was a case of too little, too late for the Cardinals, as the Steelers hung on to win, 28-24.

EA's been holding its annual Madden Bowl every year since 2004, and Madden had a perfect record predicting the real-world winners … until last year, when it picked the hated Patriots (well, hated by me, at least) over the Giants by eight (38-30).

Ah … not quite.

Side note: One of the coolest features of Madden NFL '09 for Xbox 360/PS3 is that you can (at last) set the CPU to play both sides in a simulated game; in previous editions, only the PC version of Madden could run a CPU-vs.-CPU matchup.

And that, Dear Readers, is why they play the game live and in person. That being said, this might be a heavyweight slugfest. Enough to keep the masses sitting up and begging for more. More bean dip, more chips, and all that we so eagerly consume while watching this annual extravaganza. I like the Cards 21-20. Michael

mwbudd . . . the slug-fest was last week . . . the cards' defense may be the worst in superbowl history! . . . they've given up 200-plus points more than the steelers' defense has . . . and the steelers defense may be one of the best in the history of the nfl . . . the steelers offense worked the ravens defense (much, much better than the cards'!!) last for over 300 yards (could have been much worse without three dropped balls) . . . so, steelers 32 cards 18.

. . . oh yeah . . . the steelers are going to be playing in front of a crowd that will be at least 85 percent steelers' fans . . . see super bowl XL in detroit as a reference . . .

3 best teams came out of the AFC this year(pitt, titans, POS ravens) but hands down, the steelers go small game hunting this week again.

To the guy referencing Tennessee- they got cocky and fell asleep at the wheel... I predicted that (I'm a Titans fan, it kills me to know that I was right). BACK TO REALITY:: Steelers are going to lose. [Why?] The Cardinals want it more. Simple.
