Having trouble getting connected—and staying connected—to your Wi-Fi network? Check out this compact USB antenna that promises to grab signals from wireless access points up to 1,000 feet away.

Discovered by the bloggers at the Boy Genius Report, HField Technology's Wi-Fire ($79) is a flat, plastic antenna roughly the size of a deck of cards that clips onto your laptop screen. Just plug it into your notebook's USB port and the Wi-Fire will take over the duties of your internal wireless card, hunting down the weakest of Wi-Fi signals. The included software will help you aim the antenna for the best reception, or you can just twist the Wi-Fire until you get a strong signal. And yes—the Wi-Fire works with both Mac and Windows systems.
