Had it with the high-pitched screeches of 12-year-olds while you're taking out Locusts in Gears of War? Here's a new Xbox 360-compatible headset that lets you crank the bullets and explosions while turning down the chat.

The Ear Force X3 from Turtle Beach ($100) is apparently the first third-party set of headphones for the Xbox 360 with separate volume controls for sound effects and multiplayer chat—nice for those moments when a particularly annoying player starts popping off for no particular reason. The headset also features a "dynamic talkback" feature that adjusts chat audio as the game audio rises and falls, along with a bass booster, a stereo expander that widens the sound field, and an auto-off feature for conserving battery life (the headset is powered by a pair of AAA batteries). Look for the Ear Force X3 to arrive in early September for $100.
