Talk about sizzling phones of summer. We've got the Palm Pre set to go on sale this Saturday, Apple looks poised to unveil a new iPhone—or iPhones—next Monday, and now T-Mobile says it'll have a new Android phone on tap "early this summer."

In an e-mailed press release yesterday afternoon, T-Mobile crows that it's already sold more than a million units of the T-Mobile G1, the first handset powered by Google's mobile, touch-enabled Android OS (check out my full review). Beyond that, however, the e-mail was awfully light on details.

"T-Mobile is planning to offer the follow-on device to the T-Mobile G1 early this summer," the e-mail reads. "We'll have more details to share on this exciting Android-powered device later this month … stay tuned."

Those details may well come during a briefing with HTC (the phone manufacturer that built the G1) that's slated for June 24 in Manhattan. (Yes, I'll be there.)

For now, most of the speculation is focusing on the HTC Magic, a sleeker version of the G1 announced back in February that jettisons the G1's slide-out QWERTY keypad in favor of a virtual touch keyboard (not to mention a slimmer profile). Gizmodo just posted an in-depth review of the Magic (a.k.a. Google Ion), which the site has gone ahead and dubbed the T-Mobile G2.

Then again, there's also the Samsung i7500, a new touchscreen Android phone with a 3.2-inch AMOLED display and a 5-megapixel camera. The i7500 is due in Europe this month.

In any case, we're looking at a perfect storm of phones in the next month or so—and that's paradise for us gadget geeks.

So, who do you think will win the phone wars this summer: Apple, Palm, or Google and its Android OS?

Apple, hands down. However I wish they would sell these phone unlocked so we could use them on whatever network we want.

APPLE WILL WIN, no doubt, by how many years have they had, how many handsets did they sell in the first 3 days? more than a lot of phones have sold in the 2 years

If Apple will do the spectrum of phones, with one at 4GB/$99, they're going to win, hands down. IMO, Palm and Google are fighting to stay alive in the market as a #2 unless Apple stays stubborn with their 'exclusivity' image.
