Is Twitter's crazy growth spike for real if most of its new members aren't bothering to use it? That's the question posed by the authors of a new study that found that more than half of those in the "Twittersphere" aren't tweeting, aren't following anyone, and aren't being followed by anyone.

I've followed just one, Infinity Ward.
Many of us have joined Twitter as a simple way to blog where there is no other avenue to do it to a specific author, subject, etc. Personally; I do not want my profile on line for all to see. ( The mass mailers will have a hayday tweeting junk offers my way). I value privacy. Also many of us do not wish to announce to the world when we will be home or out for obvious reasons.
Twitter has a specific purpose, one that the mainstream hasn't figured out yet. Twitter was around before everyone started talking about it on TV shows and on the news, before every personality started declaring him/herself a "geek" because they used Twitter. It's better than facebook statuses because you can update frequently, and it's a good way to stay in contact with people that you don't quite hold as close as facebook friends. Get with it people. Most people who joined twitter just did so because they heard about it from some mass media outlet. Now they aren't using their profiles because they don't know what to do.
Wow, proofread much?

I've never been a big Twitter fan, and I dont see the allure, compared to much richer offerings from Facebook and Myspace. I have tweeted several times, but I dont get any responses. Its a waste of time, IMHO.
