If you've been sitting on the fence about snapping up an iPhone, now may be the time to strike. Apple just announced a $200 price drop on the 8GB iPhone, effective today.
The 8GB iPhone will now retail for $399, compared to the steep $599 premium that early adopters (myself included) shelled out on launch day. Meanwhile, the 4GB iPhone (which is no longer listed on the Apple Store) will go on sale for $299 "while supplies last." With rumors of a stripped-down, low-cost iPhone in the pipeline, it makes sense that Apple would see fit to phase out the 4GB iPhone (which hasn't sold nearly as well as its bigger 8GB brother).
Update: I originally reported that the 4GB iPhone would keep its $499 price tag, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, given that the 8GB phone is just $399—and indeed, I was wrong. My bad.
And another update: Steve Jobs just posted an open letter on Apple's Web site, offering a $100 Apple Store credit to anyone who bought the iPhone at the original price. It's not quite $200 in cash, but it's something.

ITS NOT JUST A PHONE, ITS A MINI COMPUTER.BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR DOWN LOADS AND DATA PACKAGE FROM AT&T AND VOICE PLAN.
Wait a second, a brand new technology product came out and you people are surprised and mad that the price dropped within a month or two??? Where have you been the last 15 years - if you did not see it coming, then you have serious issues.
They charge $599, then drop it to $399 so you feel like you are getting a great deal Right! One day theyll be giving them away free with a service contract. and your kids are gonna want a $1000 for the latest i-crack that is hot in the year 2018.... I'm gonna buy me a chineese made iphone...comes with free poisonous lead casing

I am getting out of the Technoloop. No Iphone for me. They already got enough of my money on the Ipod. Turn off the noise and listen to how great the silence can be. Life is good without the crap.

will apple ever sell the unlock iphone so you could use with who you please with?what about the market for europe and africa, typicall all the phone are unlock.i hope they do really soon so i can get one.
Ok speaking of being compensated! would it work out this way if say you pay $600 for the phone and the next month the price goes up $100 should you now compensate the company? If a person does not understand that prices fluctuates then maybe they should not be buying phones.
According to our local paper, Apple is offering a refund to customers who bought an iPhone at the higher price in the last 14 days. If you're one of them folks, I'd suggest you contact your dealer to find out how to claim your refund!
Hi! anybody knows if I could refund some money for my iPhone the 4GB
tpham - yes, you still need the AT&T/Cingular. The company has an exclusive contract with this particular phone through 2012. I'm going to wait until my verizon contract expires next year before considering another phone...who knows, there might be a better toy later this year.

Think it im 19 years old & all i do is talk through aim. But i still want an iphone!! HELP!!
I love electronics and dont care if it was 1000 $ . I had a lot of people saying negative things but you know what it is people who cant get the phone. that has all of the negative things to say ,its like the inncodent with janet jackson and justin timberlake the only people that was offended was women with little boobs hahaha get over it and deal with the fact that the best phone running is th I phone i love mine and will continue to purchase the next best eletronic device that come out lol Heather
stephanie_vivas Get what you want not what others think you might like.
This is just a general comment about Apple. When you purchase an apple product you're usually paying more because A. your most of the time getting a computer/device etc. for you to get laid. Face it, it's the ONLY way your nerdification will be overlooked when you sport that 600 dollar phone that includes a french tickler and REALLY PUFFS out of your KHAKIS making that flaccid, ineffectual Bishop (that you've beaten the bejezzuz outta too many times -hey..I'm OVER here dude sheesh and they say you WON'T GO BLIND) anyway, it looks like your a cross between Bill Gates and Johnny Wadd when pocket is cramed full of iPHONE, plus, it ipresses wome that it makes a better venti doube skimmed latte than Starmorebucks, So, ROCK ON NERDOPHANT, and I pray thee hits a lick sooneth.

With the dramatic drop in price & apples history of bringing out new technology 6 months after it introduces something - it sounds like they might do it again. Does anyone know what is coming next for the iphone? In addition - can anyone give me an honest report on the phone/service and general workings of the new iphone. I would like one but depend on my phone too much to purchase a piece of junk.
