If you've been sitting on the fence about snapping up an iPhone, now may be the time to strike. Apple just announced a $200 price drop on the 8GB iPhone, effective today.
The 8GB iPhone will now retail for $399, compared to the steep $599 premium that early adopters (myself included) shelled out on launch day. Meanwhile, the 4GB iPhone (which is no longer listed on the Apple Store) will go on sale for $299 "while supplies last." With rumors of a stripped-down, low-cost iPhone in the pipeline, it makes sense that Apple would see fit to phase out the 4GB iPhone (which hasn't sold nearly as well as its bigger 8GB brother).
Update: I originally reported that the 4GB iPhone would keep its $499 price tag, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, given that the 8GB phone is just $399—and indeed, I was wrong. My bad.
And another update: Steve Jobs just posted an open letter on Apple's Web site, offering a $100 Apple Store credit to anyone who bought the iPhone at the original price. It's not quite $200 in cash, but it's something.

How about the loual apple customers like myself who own many ipods and bouth the 8 gig for $599. We got shafetd. This is not fair and I would hope that they/you plan on making this right by some type of copensation such as at least a $200 gift card. If not I will NEVER buy another apple product.
If you need to have that many pictures and that much music on a phone you have a problem.
i heard they recalled mad phones
WHAT!!!! I just got screwed!
Hey Dude, its a gr8 newz 4 me....but sorry 4 u. Neva mind..
Great...but since i don't use Cingular it doesn't do me much good. If it were Verizon I would buy
Still not buying... I'd rather carry my laptop and watch video on there..
just hold off a bit longer and it will down another $100 by the end of the year. This is why you let the suckers buy their phones first :-)
do you still need to be with at&t in order to use this phone?
wwwooooooohhhooooo i can finally get one
you want to compensated? FOR WHAT? everyone knows that when a new phone comes out you should WAIT because the price will drop. Maybe you shouldnt of been so impatient,... you might of saved yourself $200.
Yes, I am definately getting one now!!
Hopefully they will give "shoedogldr" some type of refund. Then maybe it will be spent on spelling and writing skills.
I think Apple has ticked off so many people now that bought the product then dropped the price. The people that bought the product were typical loyal Apple fans but doing this so soon with the price cut is stupid. They should have just market it at $399. I didnt buy the Iphone but I wont buy their products since I dont want buyers remorse a couple months later.
