"Small Number" of iPod Touch Screens Faulty

Apple has admitted that a "small number" of the screens on its new iPod Touch have trouble displaying dark images. Now let's see if Cupertino takes the next step and replaces the glitchy Touches free of charge.

In his review of the Touch, Wall Street Journal tech guru Walt Mossberg notes that some "early" units of the Touch (although not his pair of review units, apparently) suffered from faulty screens; indeed, I could barely make out the dark scenes in "The Hunt for Red October" on my test Touch, and several other reviewers have pointed out the problem as well. Mossberg reports that Apple has admitted to the problems, adding that only a "small number of units" were affected and that the issue is "being remedied."

I'm glad to see that Apple has owned up to the Touch's bum screen (or at least, to the "small number" of Touches with faulty LCDs). Of course, I'd be even happier if Apple offered to replace the defective iPods for free. If you happen to be one of the unlucky few (that is, assuming the "small number" figure is correct), call Apple customer support, read the excerpt from the Mossberg review and demand a replacement; hopefully, they'll oblige.

Great for the early adopters of touch screen iPods... does everyone see now? you don't buy a tech product within a month of release- wait a few weeks, then get it. Especially after the iPhone ordeal.

You know, ever since the iphone anouncement, i have been hearing a lot more problems coming from Camp Apple. I hope this isnt a trend that is going to continue getting worse. Apple was known for only releasing products that were working correctly and didnt have any problems, but lately they have been getting a lot of complaints. Bummer. I agree with the person above, NEVER buy a new tech product the minute its released. Wait a few weeks or even a few months to see if there are any problems.

I don't think they'll have a problem replacing the units, if they gave a credit for people who bought the iPhone.

i agree with waiting. how about apple should really test their products like they once did. please don't become a PC company.

its common sense to wait before buying a new tech product but Apple's technology is some real advanced stuff compared to all over consumer electronics. nobody else is doing touch screen on their scale.
