Is your beloved Wii Remote still flying out of your hand and hitting innocent bystanders in the head (or worse, smashing your beloved plasma)? If so, help is on the way—in the form of a free silicone cover, courtesy of Nintendo.

Kotaku is reporting that Nintendo will start giving away the new Wii Remote Jacket, which the gaming giant describes as a "cushiony shield" for "people who might accidentally throw or drop their Wii Remotes while playing games," starting on October 15; the cover will also start shipping with all new Wii consoles. The translucent cover looks pretty cool, at least from the pictures, although we'll have to wait and see whether it interferes with, say, Wii Bowling in any way.

Ready to get your hands on your free jacket? Just visit Wii.com or Nintendo.com to place your order, or dial 866-431-8367.

I applied one for my wii, well you know free means hard to get. After I filled out the requested area, I got a page HTTP404. Then I tried again, this time the page turned out normally, it says "Our records indicate that your request for additional Wii Remote Jacket(s) has exceeded the maximum quantity allowed per Wii serial number. If you feel that you have received this message in error, please wait 24 hours and try your request again."

Hallowiin...Clever... My Wii remote has never flown out of my or any of my friends' hands...Besides isn't that what the strap is for? That Wii condom looks a bit retarded.

That is a pretty dumb problem to have I think, good thing I play pc games though, I used to wave my NES controllers around tons to make mario jump higher when I got my first video game console. But yeah it is cool that nintendo is covering theirselves even if its not their fault for the clumsy people that buy their stuff. Also to all the smartasses winning a fight on the internet is like the special olympics, even if you win your still retarded for participating

I don't understand how people can lose control over their darn wiimote. You don't got to swing it THAT hard. I've not even dropped it once... and I don't even strap it to my wrist... Anyway, I commend Nintendo for going out of the way to satisfy customers, unlike Sony and Microsoft. All the haters know where to stick it. You'd expect them to want more money for this thing. Thank you. You've been great innovators since saving the industry. Anyway, I think that the need for these things is stupid nonetheless. Get a hold of yourselves, don't blame Nintendo. You shouldn't be playing if you can't keep the darn thing in your hand. And I believe these people are likely totally incompetent or should never ever play sports. Get real! What do you do, throw your bat at the pitcher when you swing?

Don't bother. The web site is set up so that you never get through the order process and will not let you try again for another 24 hours.

WOW FREE!!? Good thing about Nintendo, they want people to have fun and not worrying too much on trying to make money on every little thing, say like Microsoft. They don't offer anything for free. American businesses are so greedy sometimes.

Wiiiiiii they are FREEEEEEEEE! Get 4 of them like I did for FREE! Nintendo went a totally different direction with this console. Kudos for the unique games play, inexpensive price and THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE out of the 3 main players: Nintendo, XBOX and PS3!
