AT&T Gets 3G "Tilt" Smartphone

The former Cingular just got its first Windows Mobile 6 smartphone, and it's a beaut. Wi-Fi? Check. GPS? Check? Exchange and BlackBerry support? Done. 3G? You betcha. Oh, and then there's that cool, tilting display.

Available October 5, the HTC-made Tilt ($300 with a two-year service agreement) looks like your typical slider smartphone—except instead of going sideways, the display slides out and up, revealing a full QWERTY keypad beneath. It's a clever touch, although hopefully the screen isn't at too much of a angle.

Besides that, the Tilt comes with your standard smartphone features—pretty much all of them, in fact. Data comes courtesy of AT&T's speedy HSDPA network or over Wi-Fi, and you also get integrated GPS and Telenav GPS Navigator, push e-mail, contacts and events via Exchange or BlackBerry Connect (that's a first for a North American Windows Mobile phone, by the way), microSD memory card expansion (up to 32GB), stereo Bluetooth, and a three-megapixel camera. Very impressive.

If the iPhone had just HALF these features, I'd get it. But it doesn't, so this will be my next phone.

I see it will take up to 32 Gb of memory, but.... the only memory available right now is 2 Gb.
