Five thousand movies on your TV, instantly: that's the promise of Vudu, a TV set-top box that uses the power of peer-to-peer networking to deliver near-DVD quality videos to your living room at the click of a button, no PC required. I've had about a week to test-drive the Vudu; did it fulfill my dreams of home-theater nirvana? Read on.

Why would i pay $400 dollars so I can still pay to rent movies? What a dumb idea? Are people really that gullible? Complete waste of money!
I think it's stupid that they want me to pay 400 dollars for a box, then pay for the movies as well? At least if I buy a hi def dvd player I can hold the disks that i pay for in my hand and I don't have to worry about losing them if a harddrive goes bad. I think this is a stupid idea altogether.
you might as well built your won machine.
When you buy a movie do you get the DVD extras? I know on iTunes you dont. What a waste!
Rip Off. Another way for studios to think they can take us for a ride. The box should be free or include a $400 credit for renting to help their (and our) upfront costs. Plus with on demand, and DVDs (blockbuster as everyone knows sells their used ones pretty cheap), why would I need this.
Can anyone say Divix? Remember that P.O.S. system where you had to buy the movie through your Phone line, and pay to watch it everytime. This will never work when your can watch High Def DVD's right now at an inexpensive price. No Star Wars of Indiana Jones? I can't wait to watch The 5th Element for the 4000th time!
I agree with the first post. you don't get HD movies, sub-standard sound. you still have to buy/rent the movies.I mean this $400 piece of equipment can't even hold its own against a standard DVD player which is just around $40 and I get to buy whatever DVDs I want, not to mention a DVD is much easier to carry around than a box. Also, my cable company offers same "on demand" option, at no extra cost.....This technology is a couple years too late. If it had came out back in 2003, I'd run to the stores and buy it, now, it just doesn't make sense.
The ability to hook up my laptop to my TV and use Netflix's Watch It Now feature is good enough for me. I rent the new releases in DVD form from Netflix and watch the older movies on Watch It Now for free, for only 15 a month... and Watch It Now has lots of TV shows and it is only getting better, as well. $400 plus rental fees is too much money for the amount of movies i watch through Netflix.
where do i get it?
hello there
More un needed pricey ----- for people to spend their money on. Knock yourself out.
$400 is too much. Maybe with a guarantee of $1 rentals for all movies and maybe throw in some DVR functionality too, or it needs to be free with monthly subscription.
It sounds like a "dog & pony show" for the maker....which is who?
Sounds a lot like that allsii hardware coming up from AHT in NYC, only more expensive and less capable.
goto http://ssupload.com/ and watch movies that are in the theaters now. Some are great quality some are eh ya know but for free on your pc what can you say, even pay per view events. I like it.
are you kidding me. total waste of money. every movie ive ever wanted to see i either already have the dvd or it comes on high def directtv... a pricey gadget that doesnt even allow you to PURCHASE movies that have just been released.. in the end it doest add up. dvd player 40 bucks.. hi-def cables 12 dollars.. on the right television you dont need anything else.. not too mention it isnt even a finished product... sound quality not the same for all movies.. how do you watch a movie like 300 in MONOTONE are you serious... i pass...
agree
Who need IT??? Movies suck!! There are only blacks and asians. Films are unwatchable for white! I hate movies

anyone know whether this would work outside of the US? I am living overseas and this is a great possibility (for now), but I would hate to by it and not have it work...
