Onkyo Receiver Boasts XM, Sirius and HD Radio

Home-audio powerhouse Onkyo unleashed a slew of new receivers earlier this week, all of them with glorious HDMI-switching goodness (which lets you plug in multiple HDMI sources and send them to your TV via a single HDMI output), plus the ability to power 7.1 discreet channels of sound (seven speakers plus a subwoofer). What caught my attention, however, was Onkyo's new top-of-the-line receiver, which looks like a dream machine for digital radio aficionados.

In addition to its four HDMI inputs and support for cutting-edge Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD (the "lossless" audio formats on Blu-ray and HD DVD discs), the TX-NR905 is compatible with XM and Sirius satellite radio receivers, and it also includes an HD Radio tuner, making it the first AV receiver I've seen that works with all three digital radio formats. (Never heard of HD Radio? Check out Christopher Null's thorough primer.) The THX-certified TX-NR905 (the receiver pictured above is the Sirius- and XM-only TX-SR806, but you get the idea) also comes with an Ethernet port for accessing your home network, a USB port that taps into MP3 players, and a microphone that automatically calibrates the receiver according to your living room's acoustics-as well it should, given the whopping $2,100 price tag. Too rich for your blood? Then check out Onkyo's new, entry-level TX-SR505, a $380 receiver that's one of the cheapest you'll find with HDMI switching at a full 1080p.
