Worried your liberal buddies will find out about that little contribution you made to George W's reelection campaign? Guess what—the truth is only a few clicks away.
FundRace isn't exactly a new service—it was launched
back in 2003, and more recently, it was folded into the Huffington Post—but it's a never-ending source of snoopy, creepy fun. The site itself is pretty simple; you just plug in a name or street address, and you'll get a list of people who made a contribution of $200 or more to a presidential candidate. Sound invasive? Maybe so, but the info mined by FundRace was all duly compiled by the Federal Election Commission, and a matter of public record.
Still with me? Then let's get spooping. Want to know if your neighbors favor Republicans or Democrats? Submit your address and see what happens. (I tried it for my street here in Brooklyn, and came up with a lot more donkeys than elephants.) How about the CEO of your company? Type in her name and get the dirt. And what about the rich and famous? Here are a few I found:
- Oliver Stone: $1,000 for Barack Obama, Q2/2007; $500 for John Edwards, Q2/2007
- Paul Allen: $4,600 to Hillary Clinton, Q1/2007; $4,600 to Tom Vilsack, Q1/2007
- Susan Sarandon: $250 for Bill Richardson, Q3/2007
- Richard Gere: $500 for Wesley Clark's 2004 campaign
- Jennifer Anitson: $2,300 for Barack Obama, Q1/2007
- Bill Gates: $2,000 for George Bush's reelection campaign, $2,300 for Barack Obama, Q2/2007 [Note: I searched for Steve Jobs' contribution info but couldn't find him. Bummer.]
- Tobey Maguire: $4,600 for Hillary Clinton, Q2/2007; $2,300 for Barack Obama, Q1/2007
Good, clean fun—and I won't tell you how much time I wasted on it today.

How much time did you waste? (Said in the best infomercial voice I can come up with) Not the whole day, I hope.
