T-Mobile Pulls Glitchy Sidekick Slide

The carrier announced that it's "suspending sales" of the newly released Slide after complaints that it powers off unexpectedly when you slide the screen open and closed. Oops.

A T-Mobile rep sent out an e-mail late Friday detailing the Slide's woes and promising that Motorola (maker of the Slide) is "working to identify the root cause" of the problem, which reportedly also wipes all data from the phone. The e-mail also states that other Sidekick models, including the new LX, aren't affected by the glitch.

So, what to do? If you're the unlucky owner of a bad Slide, contact T-Mobile; the carrier will either let you exchange it for the pricier Sidekick LX or apply the cost to another T-Mobile phone. No details on a cash refund, although I'd certainly expect T-Mobile to honor such a request.

I've had a test Slide for a couple of weeks and haven't had any trouble, even after repeatedly sliding the screen open and closed. Any Slide owners out there with problems?

I HAD THE sIDEKICK SLIDE 2 DAYS AFTER IT CAME OUT. I LOVEEEDDD IT! BUT AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALL I EXCHANGED IT BECAUSE I DIDNT WANT A PHONE THAT WOULD KEEP BREAKING ON ME A MONTH OR SO AFTER I GOT IT. I HAVE THE PEARL NOW AND LOVE IT EVEN MORE! I TRIED THE SIDEKICK 3 BUT IT WAS HUGE AND A LOT WORSE THAN THE SLIDE! I STILL WISH THE SLIDE ENDED UP NOT HAVING THE RECALL

You have no backyard! Where are we suppose to party? You also have no driveway, I mean where are we suppose to park? I mean it's just construction. If we park on the street our cars are just gonna get towed. I mean your house is small and hot and you invite all these people to party. And then when I say "Hey let's go to the backyard to party,", oh I forgot, YOU HAVE NO BACKYARD! So why do you have a backdoor. I mean I could start a fund for you to get a backyard and driveway.

I can't help but think MAYBE the problem is the magnet closure (even though never caused this problem on the other SKs). Because my boyfriend has one of the RAzors (v3t, I think) & we bought him a case w/a magnet closure & when his phone rang & he attempted to pull it out of the case the magnet would answer & then immediately disonnect the call. I have the SK3 Diane Von Furstenburg special edition & I LOVE it! No problems (knock on wood). I got it last year for Xmas & have no plans of getting a new phone anytime soon. My co-worker however, went & got a SK3 (after hearing me rave about it!) & has had nothing but problems (I feel like a schmuck for recommending it!) A guy at a T-Mobile store sold her a SK3 without fully setting it up for all the email, internet & texting stuff, it never worked right! Antother T-Mobile store switched it for the "LX" & she had some other problems w/that one erasing her data. She went back & they gave her a SK Slide, she was so happy! And guess what?! Yup. It turns off sometimes when she slides it open & shut. Geesh ... so much for recommending their phones anymore.

what about RECALLING the over priced non operative DASH. This phone does not live up to its standards and neither does T-Mobile.

We bought our daughter the slide for Christmas. The phone locked up and would turn off and on at will losing all the info each time. T-Mobile sent a new phone. After a week, it's not decided to turn off and on as well losing the info. We were not told when we purchased the phone that if you do not have the sidekick data option you can't save anything. We can't bluetooth addresses to her either. I've spoken to three different reps at T-mobile and heard a different story from each one. I'm waiting to hear back about returning this second phone. As it stands now, they are expecting me to send the defective phone back to them at MY expense. What the heck am I paying the insurance for? A great disappointment.

I have always liked the Sidekick, and said if they came out with one that has a slide screen...well, I would buy it. I bought one for myself in December and about 2 weeks after I got it, I started experiencing the shut down issue. Customer service said they had not heard of the SS having that problem. The internet on the phone is VERY S L O W and frustrating. And the trackball started having issues about 2 months after I got it by sticking or not working at all. I placed an order for a Shadow today...hope its much better than this stupid Sidekick.
