Ever wonder what Fido does when you're not around? Suspect he's throwing wild parties? Terrorizing the neighbors? Now you'll know. Panasonic's PetCam and new web site, SeeMyPetCam.com answers your questions and creates a social network for pet lovers everywhere.

Beneath the canine packaging, this new webcam from Panasonic is really just your garden variety IP camera, but that's not a bad thing. Because the camera connects right to the Internet, you don't need to attach it to a computer; all of the other software you need is built into the camera. You connect the camera directly to your router (or, if you want, to your PC) and the rest happens automatically.

The webcam points you to a free permanent web address that allows you to watch your pet in action. You can also store the videos on the SeeMyPetCam.com site and join a lively community of pet lovers. And you can control (tilt and pan) the camera remotely from any web connection, including your web enabled cell phone. It does still shots, too.

Panasonic is offering a few variations of the PetCam with catchy names like the BL-C1, BL-C20, BL-C111, and BLC131. Some of the cameras have a more robust feature set than others. The ones with thermal sensors can be triggered when your dog steps into the area. Others feature a 10X digital zoom (remember that digital zooms can cause very pixilated images). One of the models even has two-way sound (so you can really confuse Fido with your voice of God imitation.)

Of course you could just as easily use this camera to guard your home or check up on the babysitter. But we all know that pooches, like babies, sell cameras. The Panasonic network cameras are currently available at www.Panasonic.com and www.Amazon.com. They start at $99 and go up to $299.

Not a dog lover? A variation on the theme is this inventor's cat cam. He gets a tabby-eye view of the world because his cat wears the camera, which takes one photo a minute (for 48 hours).

Do you know what your pet is doing?

I am so glad I found this website. I have two sister dogs that are my heart and soul. Their names are Diamond ciara Leonne and Trinity Starr Dynomite. They are the most beautiful, sweetest dogs EVER... Everywhere I take them people just love to pet them and even when people see them they just make people smile. I have so wanted to get them on the internet where I can share my love for them and share their ability to make others smile. Other than when I am at work all I want to be is with them. I want to get a digital camera and gain the knowledge to be able to create a website dedicated to them and my love for them. I suffer from severe depression and I suffer from the illness of being bipolar and as most people in the human world see me as damaged. They only see someone that loves them and they love me back unconditionally...My wish would be to get a job where I could take them around and make otheres happy even if only just for a moment. Sometimes in life when you cannot find happiness you just find happy moments. That would be my idea life. Just to have a little house with just me and my two girls. My two babies are two beautiful blondes, they are part american eskimo and golden retriever, one looks like an eski and the other lookslike a golden with a very long neck. I so wish you could see them as they are truly are my two beautiful girls. Hope to get their picture on site as soon as possible. Looking forward to gaining more computer knowledge and more familiar with this web site. Its the year 2007 and I just got my first computer and being the dumb blonde that I am its been a learning experience to say the least. I found this web site by accident, if you don't try you can't succeed. With the love of my two girls I hope to learn to navigate this internet world and make some paw friends in the process. From three blondes in Erlanger. welcome to our world.

Jody- don't fret, you will get the hang of it. The website mentioned in this article (seemypetcam.com) is really easy to use. I uploaded a few videos the other day of my golden retriever (Renegade) he is love of my life. It's so heart warming to know that they will always be so loyal and I love showing him off, so the site was perfect!
