Fair warning to all of you speed texters out there: The New Zealand Medical Journal reported the first case of texter's thumb, or texting tenosynovitis as it's known to medical experts. It seems that for 20-year-old student Fleur de Vere Beavis, sending up to 100 SMSes a day inflamed the tendons along the thumb and side of the wrist and filled the surrounding tissue with fluid.

The article, reported in Cellular News, goes on to say that there have been only two other reported cases: one in Singapore and one in Australia.

Sure enough, any time that technology is part of the problem, it's bound to show up as part of the solution. This SmartGlove from IMAK can help stave off texting tenosynovitis. For worried parents of texters, the CellCoach, a little device you install on the car's dashboard, will emit a high-pitched beep whenever it detects cell phone traffic. (Product shot via Gizmodo.)
