Practical Uses for a Cell Phone Camera?

At the risk of sounding like an aging geek, I have to think twice to remember to use my cell phone camera. Not how to use it, but how to remember to use it. The cell phone is always in my hand (it's like a reverse stress ball), but somehow lifting my phone to anything but my ear still seems a bit foreign.

And that goes double for weird cell phone camera uses. My husband deserves extra credit for this valuable reminder. We were packing up an exhibit from the CES show floor and we were pen-less with no easy way to make copies of the bills, the booth numbers, and the model numbers.

He whipped out his cell phone and started snapping. Of course 2MP of resolution—today's current standard—isn't exactly an easy photo to read. When you've got numbers, letters, and small type to track, photos are probably not the ideal way to go. That said, most cell phones have tools for zooming in on parts of a photo. And so, a few hours later when we had to check on boxes, we had all the information we needed, preserved in photos and stored on the phone.

What's your most practical use for your cell phone camera?

At work I frequently run meetings from a white board, so I do not have my pen poised over paper to take notes. When I get to the point where I need to erase the board, I whip out my cell phone and snap a pic. After the meeting I download the pics and email to attendees if necessary. This has turned out to be a real time saver which allows the meetings to progress swiftly with minimal delay.

How about at a car accident, I never carry my digital camera but when I was a witness to a fender bender last year, it came in very handy

I use it at work, when I need to "carry" information that I would, otherwise, have to write down on a paper or print before I can use it.

To take a picture of a room layout before rearranging the room for a meeting. That way I can return the room to its former arrangement. I also recently used the cell to take pics of products and prices when comparison shopping for a vacuum (it ended up being pointless because the 2 stores I checked didn't have any overlapping products, but it seemed like a good idea at the time!).
