100 ways your iPod can up your IQ

Creatures of habit that we are, we sometimes get into a gadget rut, forgetting that our iPods are probably capable of a lot more than what we do with them. So far, I've used mine for listening to music and podcasts, watching movies (which isn't my idea of film appreciation), and receiving RSS feeds. But I didn't know what I was missing until I stumbled across "100 Ways to Use Your iPod to Learn and Study Better" from the Online Education Database (OEDb).

Many of the suggestions are free, while some have a low-cost fee. There's not a loser in the bunch, and they come from some far-flung places on the Web.

Some are tutorials:

  • Learning Podcasting: If you want to create your own podcast to share your skills or expertise on a particular subject, read this in-depth introduction to podcasting from Wise-Women.org.
  • Podtender 3.0: This software program will teach you how to make all kinds of tasty cocktails for your next party.

Some are applications that make learning easier:

  • iGadget: Make your class notes, presentations, study guides and other materials iPod-friendly by using iGadget. You'll be able to move documents and files back and forth between your iPod and your computer easily and securely.
  • YouTube to iPod Converter 2.6: This free converter lets you watch educational videos, TV clips and more on your iPod so that you can review for tests, contribute to class discussions or add them to a presentation.

Some are for lifelong learners:

  • iJourneys: Take walking tours in cities like Salzburg, Vienna, Amsterdam, Paris and ancient Rome by downloading iPod-compatible guides from this site.
  • Free Classic Audiobooks: Find books like Herman Melville's Typee, Huckleberry Finn and Swiss Family Robinson in iPod-friendly formats here.

And some are meant to augment other studies:

    ipods seem 2 be the thing of the future.even though i will get mine in week.they seem eduational and great 4 trips and music lovers

    Perhaps there are a few lessons one might learn from this. The wording of the title wasn't as logical to some as it is to others. (ex: "make you smarter") One might read this title and think it means "If I buy an I-pod I will instantly be smart." Someone else might say "My I-pod will make me smart. What did the person who wrote this mean by that?" My point being: Just because this "I-pod" a good fit for you may not mean it is a good fit for someone else (if at all). Therefore, depending on if the I-pod helps you (or not)doesn't make the I-pod the greatest/worst invention ever made.

    I am a grandma and have a lot of CD's I carry around in my van. My daughter suggested that I get an Ipod for my music. I don't really care if it is an Ipod or another brand--I can't afford anything expensive. Just something nice that I can have for my music. So what is the cheapest NICE one. I don't want junk or something that will break easy.

    I'm 64 and I have had sleep problems for many years. I would fall asleep quickly but would wake up and not be able to get back to sleep. Reading didn't help, watching tv didn't help. Nothing helped. When I got my Ipod I started listening to old time radio programs and audio books on this machine. My sleeping problems were over! It's just like having someone read you to sleep. My wife is a flight attendant for American Airlines and is gone a good deal of the time. When she's home I use my earbuds and when she's away I use a small speaker system. Give it a try. It worked wonders for me. No more sleeping pills. No more waking up to go to the bathroom and being awake for hours.

    don't think this kind of gadget so useful for me. it simply activates your brain like a brain teaser, however, it has no ground to up your IQs. the reason is so simple, it is not educational or really a recreation at all. for me, i would rather stay way from such device, it will spoil my life, and steal my time, doing no goodness for me. plus, it is quite expensive toy. On subway, I saw so many people everyday pick a pda out of their pockets and to kill the time. i would lol if someone really think it is worthy to do.

    I have always wanted an ipod. Then, i found out about creative products... they have all the capabilities of an ipod. They can do movies, podcasts, music, e-books, games, u name it. You can get them at an affordable rate... an ipod is just a fad item. Everyone just wants them because there popular... but i am happy with my zen creative plus..... they have a bigger screen too.... i am 13 and u would think i would kill for it. A couple months ago i would... but now i could care less
