It may not become the symbol of existential angst, but Synchronica, a UK-based company, is trying to make some noise about the 10,000 mobile phones that are stolen each month (the company's figures are based on numbers reported by the Metropolitan Police in the UK).
Synchronica's mobile management software includes a "scream" feature that causes the phone to emit an embarrassing wailing sound once it's reported missing. With Synchronica, the phone will also be alerted to lock down and then wipe out all of its data.
Listen to what a screaming mobile phone sounds like.

Hmmm..I'll check out the US stats for the US, but my hunch is that they're not so different. I don't know about you, but my cell phone contains my address book, my calendar and my email. I'd love it to scream if it got swiped and I'd love to have it erase my data if it got swiped. As for what goes in the UK...it typically parallels what goes on in the US, and sometimes, they even come up with a novel solution first . Thanks for writing. It's nice to see a strong reaction
ucccft, mobile phones and cell phones are the same thing. I though this was a lovely article and I agree, Robin, I'd want this service if it were available in the U.S.! It certainly beats being on the phone with customer service for hours! This way you don't have to cancel your service. You lost your cell but not your plan. (And if you didn't like your cell phone maybe you could convince your husban to get you a better one ;)
I agree with robin, maybe there is a better way to deal with the data in the lost cell phone, that is , before wiping out the data, the lost phone can automatically upload the data including the address book and short messages to the provider's server, then the data can be reused.
i like the idea...but eh..doesnt interest me. to tzeryck: In England, and even Europe people rely on public transportation and contact with lots of people unlike us here in US,+ people have much better phones, and actually even frickin 4 year old have awsome phones! i bet the #s are bigger
If the iPhone doesn't fit your fancy, one of these four competitors could be the apple of your eye.

OK! Some 10,000 Cell phones that are stolen each month in the UK. WOW! WHO CARES? We in the US don't have that problem as just about every one older the 10 has their own cell phone, if not 2 Cell phones. And if a cell is stolen or lost, it becomes useless as the service is cutoff. So what's your point? Oh yes, as we are in the US and the Cell phone or any kind of phone was invented here in US. Please! It's a CELL Phone, not a mobile phone. Thank you and please choose some better subject then Cell phones which screams. Big Deal.
