Have you seen Amazing Amanda, the doll that shipped last year? Hold some food in front of her and she'll respond one way, show her a toothbrush and she'll respond another way. When she sees her potty—well, you can only imagine. How did Amanda get to be that amazing? With a technology called RFID, a kind of "barcodes on steroids" technology that's showing up everywhere.
Instead of using barcodes and a scanner, RFID technology uses radio waves to automatically identify people or objects. The information is stored on a microchip with a little antenna on it—the RFID tag. An RFID reader that's usually somewhere else reads the tag. The unique information is stored and retreived in a database.
An old friend of mine is the features editor at RFID Journal, and I asked her for an overview of where the tags are showing up nowadays.
Tracking People: In prisons, it's the high-tech version of the ball and chain. In libraries, it's a high-tech library card that can contain all sorts of information (like if you've already read that book).
In Stores: RFID tags on inventory let stores know when inventory is out and what's selling. They're used to alert stores about everything from produce that's about to expire to which cut of jeans is most popular.
Driving Around: E-ZPass and other tag systems for paying tolls are based on RFID. Lots of car lock systems use RFID; even Zipcar, the shared car service, uses it.
Tracking Your Own Stuff: Remote Play sells tags that let you keep track of your cellphone, iPod, or other device. It emits an alarm if you separate from your device.
Your Sporting Life: Wave a card at Qwest Field and you won't need to carry any money to the Seahawks game. MasterCard has a promotional watch you wave over items you want to purchase at the World Cup soccer match.
Amusements: Visit the Great Wolf Water Park and resort chain. It uses RFID-enabled wristbands so guests can wander cashlessly, even unlocking their rooms. From Dollywood to cruise ships, RFID is a child locator. Check out SafeTzone to plan your next RFID vacation.
Kids Safety: A Japanese robot with an RFID reader acts as a school security guard and some US schools are using RFID to track kids for pickups at dismissal.
Make you a bit queasy to think of random RFID readers putting together information from every item on the planet? It doesn't sit well with Katherine Albrecht, head of Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering either. Spend some time on the Nocards website, but understand that most of the technology experts find Albrecht and others like her a bit on the fringe when it comes to privacy concerns.
The editors of RFID Journal explains that passive tags don't broadcast information. The information that comes from the tag is stored in a database, hence the technology is as safe as any other database. (See the related post on new US Passports being issued this fall.)
What do you think? Can we reconcile the benefits dervived from tracking people and things with the need for privacy?

RFID is just another way that the government will be able to have full control over the people, so that the "group" that controls the government will have full control over the people, so as to fulfill their agenda, which can only happen when there's no resistance from "free" people. Beware of all this technology that presents itself as being merely for the purpose of more "convenience" etc.in our lives when most of them are basically "trojan horses", gaining more and more entrance and control and access to us; we are being like the frog in the pot, slowly being boiled alive without our realizing it until it's too late. At this point, I am only relying on the safety and security I find in belonging to Jesus Christ.
I work in the RFID industry here in the Bay Area, I see the technology as a huge advantage over other AutoID devices. Once you understand the capabilities of the system the fears about big brother seeing your every move becomes a after thought, it can be uncomfortable for some of us. Just think of how you lose things now in your every day lifes, I would, buy a system that could find anything I happen to be looking for or need by typing in a few key words or numbers. No dought these devices will be in all of the products we buy within 15 years. So you cant stop a great technology.
Get it right with Jesus. This the mark of the beast. The beginning of the End times. Life on eareh is going to get a lot harder. Repent & accept Jesus as your lord and savior NOW....
This would keep my daughter safe from kidnappers, etc. It could be put to GREAT use if it can save lives.
In the book of Revelation (The last book in the Bible) chapter 13 verses 16-18 quotes: "He required everyone great and small, rich and poor, slave and free-to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name. Wisdom is needed to understand this. Let the one who has understanding solve the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666" (New Living Translation). Many of you reading this still might have doubt and confusion about what you have just read. Read the verse over and over again and you will begin to see the truth about what is taking place in this very moment of our lives. Prepare to see things happen in the supernatural that our human minds cannot begin to comprehend. It is time ladies and gentleman to prepare ourselves for the return of Jesus Christ. Everything that is written in the Bible will soon come to past. Repent of your sins and ask Christ to come into your lives and when you do find a local church in your area where you live and where you can truly hear the voice of God speaking to you. God bless you and may you make your decision before it is too late...
Dont kid yourself folks. the cashless society is amongst us and with the serious problem we face with identity theft this is the wave of the future. This is the mark of the beast. Soon you will not be able to buy, sell or trade without the mark. Dont let the convience of this fool you into doing something you wish you would not have done later.
Decide for yourself: Read the informative (and award-winning book) titled SPYCHIPS. Check it out at the library or buy it at a bookstore. It is worth the read and easy to understand. It will give you much to consider.
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not;and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and so into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the lambs book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, adn them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
the end times are know. setting the pathway for the lord to take his people from earth. and allow the anti-christ to gain power for 7 years time.at whice heaven will come down and destroy lucifer and his follwers, thus sending them to heck and begaining a 1000's years of peace. this new tech is the devils will. we are told one thing, but in truth there is more to it. we WOULD be told something, but its a lie. the seven years of the devil are comming, and so is the lord and his childern at the end of the seven years. beware the wolf in sheeps clothing, for this is what it is.
Really...can't one of you bright technogeeks simply come up with a portable gadget that locates and disables RFIDs. I don't want the little bugs transmitting the amount of milk I drank last night to some guy at Kraft Foods through the box on top of my TV. Come on guys, make me a RFIDZapper!
As usual, protection and laws follow after abuse, rather than before.... Sam
As usual, protection and laws follow after abuse, rather than before.... Sam
come on putting it in toys, that`s taking the fun out of child`s play. it`s the mark of the beast (666). especially spying people & privacy. learn to show respect guys. that`s like spying on your own children taking a bath or changing clothes. it`s the end of times.makes me go out & buy older toys for all my nieces & nephews. talking about breaking the privacy act laws? how DISRESPECTFUL & DISGRACEFUL.
RFID is used wildly in todays Technology and there is no stopping the improper use of it untill it's to late unfortunitly thats how all new things are corrected as history will always repeat it self just as a child is learned the right way yet will still act in the opposite manner and will learn by mistake..So are we as with new technology one has to learn to walk before you run... this has nothing to do with religious..people RFID is not in the bible, it's the future live with it..and learn
This is the mark of the beast and for all you reading this that do not know what that is, read Revelations , the last book of the bible. The Lord is getting ready to return , but not before this stuff is in place. Lets all get the WORD out to the ones not ready. It is prophecy being fulfilled. We cannot stop it, so let's beprepared!
A product with terrifying and overwhelming potential. It is amazing and thought provoking.
Scary but true. Technology indeed brings us unimaginable benefits we can only begin to think about the wonders and possibilities it can unlock. However, strange as it may seem, this news brings chills thRough my body as I imagine how the "end times" is going to be - nobody can hide from a superpower who will soon rule the earth for a thousand years before its final destruction - the anti-Christ. This is proof that Christ's second coming is indeed very imminent. Thankfully, for those who have accepted Him as their personal Savior, this dreadful "end times" as prophesied will not happen until Christ comes to take away those who believe in Him into that place we call Heaven. Then all heck breaks lose here on earth - all the good that we have come to think about what technology can do for us will ultimately give way for the superpower to rule the earth like he is God, deceiving billions of people! The verdict - BE VERY SCARED!
For those of you that believe----READ YOUR BIBLE it is truly a sign of the times
i think this is a big invasion to peoples right to privacy. find some way for it to work out for the entire world, and for it to not to invade peoples right to privacy, or else bad things will come to all.
