Geek may be chic, but there's still a relatively small line for the ladies' room whenever geeks gather. Now, an anthology of essays, She's Such a Geek, written by some self-professed geeks is just hitting stores. Edited by Annalee Newitz and Charlie Anders (Charlie is a she), two SF based freelancers, the tagline of the book is: Women Write About Science, Technology, and Other Nerdy Stuff.
A geek by their definition appears to be a state of mind—someone who can be just as into comic books or law as computer chips. According to the publisher's notes, this collection of 24 essays by women brings together "a diverse range of critical and personal essays about the meaning of female nerdhood by women who are in love with genomics, obsessed with blogging, learned about sex from Dungeons and Dragons, and aren't afraid to match wits with men or computers." Topics cover everything from getting caught up in role-playing games to sex discrimination. The best way to see if you'll like the book it to check out the contributors.
