Why I Love (and Hate) the BlackBerry Pearl, Part Five

I forgot to mention one last thing I dig about the BlackBerry Pearl: The scroll wheel. Contrary to popular belief, the replacement of the beloved trackwheel on a typical BlackBerry's side with the omni-directional trackball on the Pearl's front is, as far as I'm concerned, an improvement.

Because it's omindirectional, the trackball lets me go backwards, forwards, up, and down, making it easier to maneuver around the various onscreen application icons than with the standard trackwheel (where the path is more linear and predetermined from first app icon to last app icon).

Smaller is sometimes better. In the case of the Pearl, the smaller keyboard and tiny scroll wheel are just as easy if not easier to maneuver than their bigger predecessors.

And one last complaint: Though it looks shiny and chrome-tastic from a distance, the Pearl's body actually feels kind of cheap. The plastic covering feels flimsy and easy-to-crack. That said, I've dropped it several times already and I still don't see any scratches, but it feels cheaper than, say, the RAZR with its sturdy metallic body, or even the entry-level Trace.

Okay, that's about all I have on the BlackBerry Pearl, at least as part of this "What I Love" series. If anyone has any experiences with the Pearl regarding features I haven't covered here or in previous posts, let me know.
