My Favorite iPod Cases

I've seen a lot of iPod cases in my day, but none that have transformed my portable player as much as the one I just got from iFrogz. These rubberized cases are distinctive not only for their looks, which are entirely created by buyers who go to the site, but also for their durability (I no longer worry about dropping my iPod on a marble floor, because rubber is extremely shock resistant).

I just got an 80GB iPod and desperately needed a case for it, so last week, I played around with the various color combinations and click-wheel cover options on the iFrogz site for nearly an hour. Finally, I settled on a brown case with an orange band (for the side) and a wheel cover with a vinyl-record illustration on it. (It goes nicely with my brown and orange kicks.) But plenty of other masculine and feminine colors are available, as well as five or six dozen wheel cover designs (everything from peace signs and the Mona Lisa to sunflowers and soccer balls).

Just click on your preferences, go to the checkout, and the $29 case arrives about five days later. The cases also come with an iPod screen-cleaning cloth and a transparent-plastic backing to place over the front of your iPod, which will really protect it forever. It fits surprisingly well—I don't even notice it's there, something that's particularly important for video. iFrogz also offers cases for Minis, Nanos, and older-generation iPods.

Half the fun is in building the custom case, which is why gift certificates from this place make great presents.

Surprisingly, I see so many people carry around iPods au naturel. I see the appeal in keeping the player small (and it certainly is nice to look at), but scratches do happen and you're screwed if you drop it on, say, a marble floor.

I think the iFrogz cases are really hip and personal. Anybody seen any other durable-yet-cool cases they'd recommend?

I have several cases, including one hand carved from maple, but my favorite is the one I got from this ebay seller: http://stores.ebay.com/Got-To-Have-It. Mine is the Rainbow Circles design (but they have a great selection) and it's made of some kind of shock absorbing plastic. I have even dropped my iPod on a bare floor and it is fine. As one of the many people who are allergic to latex, I would not want a pod case made of rubber.

The best iPod case I have seen yet is the iSkin case (although the iFrogz case looks pretty cool too). http://www.iskin.com/ I use the iSkin eVo3 on my 60GB iPod Video. It's also a silicon rubber case, with a protective thin membrane over the click wheel, and a flap that fits into the dock port. The big difference between the iSkin eVo and the iFrogz case is that the entire front panel of the iSkin case is protected by a 3mm thick (approx.) sheet of plexiglass that is sratch resistant itself. So you really don't have to worry about dropping your iPod, as the plexiglass can handle quite a bit of shock before breaking... If you were to drop your iPod with a simple screen protector applied, the screen is still very vulnerable if it were to hit a rock on the ground or something. I've had mine on since February and it's still scratch free. When I remove the iPod from the case to clean the case off, it still looks brand new. The iSkin is an excellent product. I'd reccomend checking it out. Not quite as snazzy as the iFrogz as far as colors and variety, but for absolute protection from the elements, along with 7 colors to choose from, iSkin is the way to go.They are also available for previous generation iPods as well as the nano and Sony PSP.

I found really good iPod cases at vibevault.com. they are really cool looking and they are really durable. If I drop my iPod on the pavement I dont even cringe anymore because I know my iPod is safe. You should check them out, they are pretty cool!
