I sure hope that the future has Blu-ray written all over it, because the powers behind that high-resolution disc format are sure making us wait. It looks like it's going to be mighty hard to get a player in your hands before the holidays, if this latest delay of the Sony BDP-S1 standalone Blu-ray player is any indication (the third, after missing its August 15 and October 25 release dates). Sure, the PlayStation 3 is set to come out November 17, but good luck finding one.

In the meantime, Blu-ray disc releases continue on apace from all the major studios (about 70 out now and around 100 due by year's end), but pretty much the only way to play one is on a $2,000-plus Vaio AR series laptop (or RC series desktop) or a Samsung $1,000 BDP-1000—if you've got the cash. Panasonic also offers the $1200 DMP-BD10, but no one seems to have it in stock.

HomeTheaterBlog surmises that maybe this latest Sony delay is because the company is using all its Blu-ray diodes for the 400,000 PlayStation 3 that's due out next month. Either way, it's bad news for Sony and its Blu-ray format. And for all dying to get some decent use out of our HDTVs!

I think that blu-ray has a good chance of coming. In fact, most major electronic stores have them. I have been looking for one to buy, and I found lots of them online.

I have been in the new car business over 40 years. Even back then I was told by a factory rep. it was there intention to sell that customer 1 & 1/3 cars should they own the car for 6 years. Gives me a hunk of burning love of rhe mornings when I go to start that car on a cold, cold morning..Ya ever wonder why it takes the salesperson so long to get back? They are looking up your work history on that car. Good Luck. O,,It's import also,,,,,,,, God help us all. David Ramsey dramsey@knology.net

Dispite set backs, people generally overall trust sony in putting out a quality product (hopefully with batteries that don't explode :-) ) and look for blue-ray to become more popluar once people get their hands on the PS3. Just because you won't see one this christmas, doesn't mean that will be the case in 07. with regards to the other format, hd-dvd, it could just as well take off, but seems to be more buzz on the blue-ray format. could be wrong, everyone thought those huge laser disc where the wave of the future about 15-20 years ago.
