Vulgar (and Sexy?) iPod Peripherals (and More!)

Since usually staid Business Week seems to think it's perfectly okay to cover the completely vulgar iCarta Stereo Dock (you know, the toilet paper dispenser/iPod speaker dock) without a single drop of irony or humor, I can't help but mention the iBuzz (you know, the iPod "vibrator" that pulses to the beat of your iTunes).

Turns out Apple is none too pleased with the erotic versions of its silhouette ads, which iBuzz manufacturer Love Labs has been using in its own ads for the sex toy. This according to excerpts from a legal document posted on Gizmodo. I was actually given the dubious task of (temporarily) acting as a porn pundit in my previous gig at the now-defunct Cargo magazine, where I was asked to comment (on TV!) about the iBuzz when it first came out last year. I guess I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore.

Speaking of iPod peripheral saturation, check out Gina's post on a projector with a video iPod dock—that's an innovation that might actually be useful. Just make sure the iPod hasn't been docked in anyone's iCarta recently.

Elsewhere in the current issue of Business Week: a roundup of the Best and Worst of 2006, which includes some gadgets. I was happy with the magazine's inclusion of the Dyson Root 6 Robovac, Lego NXT, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 (a 12-megapixel point-and-shoot), the Nintendo Wii, the Dell XPS-M2010, and Second Life but bummed that they ragged so hard on the failed MVNO ESPN Mobile. Sure, it didn't last too long, but on design and sports content alone, the service was unrivaled.

Here's hoping that ESPN makes good on its promise to move some of that content over to the major carriers.

Now why didn't the iCarta Stereo Dock make it on the year's worst list? Or am I missing something here?
