I got to CES a day early than usual. Last night, the CES Unveiled event, an early showcase of CES products for journalists, was packed. Some items had already been showcased in November, but here's the first post on the handful (or two) of new things I found.
Besides the RS Media, which is a finalist in our Last Gadget Standing event on Wednesday, Robosapien-makers WowWee Robotics unveiled two new robo-creatures: the Roboquad, essentially a bizarre but compelling new form factor (pictured) that does mostly what the Roboreptile and Roboraptor do (sense sound and react accordingly thanks to built-in IR scanners, albeit with extremely alien-esque movements).
Also out, the follow-up to last year's Chimpanzee Head, an animatronic WowWee Alive Elvis head that doubles as a karaoke machine. It has up to 30 monologues by the number one Elvis impersonator (according to Graceland, WowWee says) and can play up to eight songs per cartridge (yes, you can get separate cartridges to have a truly comprehensive Elvis animantronic and/or karaoke experience). The mic serves as a remote control and a karaoke mic, which you can use to sing either over just the music or to together with Elvis's voice. Making a human face look real is a lot harder than a chimp head, so the Elvis head isn't exactly uncanny, but it's a nifty one-of-a-kind doodad that I can't wait to get my hands on when it comes out this spring for $349. For pictures of the Roboquad and the Elvis head, check out this brief post from Robocommunity.
More from the CES Unveiled event later. In the meantime, any Elvis fans out there care to weigh in on the Elvis head?

I never watched SG 1, but I see a small resemblance to the Tachikoma from "Ghost in the Shell"--but the Tachikoma are so much cuter.

Doesn't this kinda remind you of the early "Replicators" on Stargate SG1?
