Up-close with Apple iPhone

Finally! After all the hype I got my hands on the Apple iPhone and, yes, it does live up to all the hoopla.

It's THAT cool.

Don't worry, I haven't completely imbibed the Kool-Aid. Let's get down to the real pros and cons, as I see them:

PROS: Vivid 3.5-inch screen, amazingly simple navigation and beautiful design, great phone/email/Internet integration, and the video and music functions are absolutely amazing—by far the best entertainment applications on ANY cell phone I have ever seen.

CONS: Only one cell service provider (AT&T), virtual keyboard (no tactile feedback), slower AT&T EDGE data network (40k-80k instead of the 200k-300k of other 3G cell phone data networks), and that big price tag.

On launch day, I only got a cursory look/feel for the iPhone. Check out my iPhone video for a demonstration of some of the device's coolest features, and look for an in-depth review from my fellow Yahoo! Tech blogger Chris Null .

Yay another $600 device and that supposed to do everything, but doesn't really do anything new and useful for $600. Thank you Sony for making a business model that helps consumers spend money technology that is not ready or fully realized. Oh BTW do the reviewers actually buy these devices? Just curious...

Why would I want a $600.00 phone that runs internet browsing at snail speeds, has crappy reception and requirse a 2 year contract with at&t in order to use ipod part of your phone. Who ever got this "iphone" was a moron.

i think that this phone despite the price is going to be worth it in the long run. maybe next year if the prices come down and they work out some new services or plans then it wil be worth the money but right now ill take the phone i have.

Just remember that a few years ago the Motorola Razr started out at $500 and that phone could not play music, full-lenght movies, had no extra memory, and a horrible battery life. People bought it because it looked cool. At least those who purchased the iPhone got a pretty good PDA/Web/Phone. The Treo 700 at Verizon is $399 after a 100 rebate. I have one and love it, but it has a poor video playback and the realplayer software included in mine is not the best for listening to my music. I played with one at the Apple store on Saturday and it is pretty good. I think its biggest downfall is the lack of 3rd party programs. I mean look at the Treo, I can buy Madden 2007 if wanted to for it and the all the Windows Mobile phones also have a ton of software. Bottom line, for those who bought it, it wasn't that bad of a purchase.
