After countless rumors and leaked advertisements, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox 360 Arcade bundle will retail for $199 starting September 5. The 60GB pack will remain at $299, as will the Elite at $399.

Microsoft is clearly throwing down the electronic gauntlet for this upcoming holiday season. The Xbox 360 Arcade now lies $50 dollars cheaper than the still-selling-out Nintendo Wii, and Sony repeatedly denies any price drop to its $399 and $499 pricing scheme (hard drive sizes increase, but prices stay constant). Sounds like an interesting set of choices for gamers this year.

Several rumors suggested that the updated $199 Xbox 360 Arcade would be bundled with a new motion-sensitive controller along with several mini-games (all developed in conjunction with Rare) to compete directly with the Nintendo Wii, however, those rumors failed to materialize.

So now the big question: If you had a choice between the Xbox 360 Arcade and the Nintendo Wii, what would you choose and why? Do you think the Xbox 360 is still too 'hardcore' for the general audience, or will the new price will convince novice gamers to give it a shot over the Wii?

Price cuts won't matter in a couple years when microsoft's next console launches and they drop the 360 like they did original x-box ( I still liked my x-box). Blu-ray isn't an advantage for PS3, digital download is the future of media, but at least sony plans a much longer life cycle for PS3 (10 yrs). I own 360 and Wii, and I would rather have 360. Wii is too casual and nintendo is making too much money to change. Save that $199 and buy 360 with HD or a PS3 (but NOT for blu-ray), but only buy this if your old 360 died and you have the HD already. Blu-ray won the war but nobody cares. Who wants to repurchase their dvds for minimal improvements in picture quality?

digital download beats blu-ray, and 360 has netflix. ps3 has promises and over-priced discs. blu-ray is as obsolete as the cd.

It's good to see an American company out price Sony and Ninendo, Play Station by Sony. They get you started with low prices then you need to by all that games software. And Japan is laughing all the way to the bank, and start saying Americans can't compete with our products .

I think it might be a good time to enter the next-gen console market, prices were putting me off before.

The nintendo Wii is good and all but the xbox 360 is still my favorite, i have both and when i want to play a video game it is usually on the xbox 360, they have more of the games i want to play verses the Wii which only has little kid games and the controllers dont work very well it seems to be more trouble to point you arm at the sensor than just using a joystick on a controller plus the graphics are way better on a xbox 360

why are peeps all for PS3 or are they use feeling they got jerked by them without have any games come out? i have the xbox and wii they both rock and im not a crazy gamer too. the PS3 was to overpriced a year ago and the game support is wack. just get the xbox and you have a list of 3000 games to choose from!
