Are you one of the folks that said, "So what?" to high-definition video recording on digital SLRs? This goes out to you.

Canon just unveiled a new sample (and incredibly stunning) video created by using the new Canon EOS 5D Mk. II camera and several different lenses. The result is simply amazing. (Click the image above to view the video.)

From Canon.com (via Gizmodo.com):

This video was shot with a pre-production Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR. The files used to create this video were not manipulated in any way, only re-compressed for ¼ resolution display on our website. Remember folks, absolutely no modification to the original film, no hocus pocus, no After Effects, no nothing. Just some editing and a track from Moby to put the piece together.

A little background on the camera: The EOS 5D Mk. II features a 21.1-megapixel sensor, Digic4 processing, full 1920x1080 video recording up to 4GBs with HDMI output, all for about $2300. Unfortunately, real movie-making talent not included.

I'd get that if I had the money... I've been interested in basic filmography for a while now and one of those would be very helpful in learning some of the, um, more delicate tricks to film. Very interesting. If only I had $3k to spend on a camera and lenses...

Here's what the link says: "DUE TO HIGH DEMAND OF VIDEO CLIPS WE HAVE EXCEEDED OUR DOWNLOAD CAPACITY. WE ARE NOW INVESTIGATING ALTERNATIVE HOSTING METHODS." Canon dumasses.

$2300 for the camera, and easily about $30,000 on all the lenses used... I find this a poor try for a selling point on this camera. Anyone using it is getting it strictly for photography. If anyone sees this video and buys the camera to make movies, they are idiots.
