Motorola, still searching for its next RAZR-sized hit, announces the Aura, a new luxury mobile phone geared specifically for those with high-end tastes and even higher-end salaries.
Set for a December 4 release, the Aura, which carries a hefty $1,999, resurrects the sexy swivel design from Motorola's classic v70 and v80 handsets and combines it with a Rolex-like manufacturing process.
So, what exactly does two grand get you? A 16 million color, fully-circular LCD display (first ever in a cell phone, according to Motorola), a 62 Carat lens crafted out of sapphire for scratch resistance, a stainless steel exterior with etched designs that takes two weeks to fabricate, a Swiss-manufactured bearing for the swivel, 700+ individual components, PVD coating (similar to high-end watches), and an all aluminum keypad.
As for the tech specs, its not bad, but not anything special, either: Quad-band GSM/EDGE (No 3G), 2-megapixel camera, MPEG-4 video playback, MP3 and WMA decoding, Stereo Bluetooth, 2GB of internal storage, and an 810mAh battery.
There's no doubt about it: The Aura looks slick, sexy, and expensive, but the short tech features combined with the high price makes this a fit for only those waiting for their private jets to be refueled.

That's a ridiculous price for a cell phone that is really ugly. What was motorola thinking with the economy the way it is??!!

and I really like it. Very impressive. pretty expensive, but extremely original and unusual.
Love it, not the price! Just wait a few months....
the screen looks like a clock that would be on the movie Saw!
For the high price this phone has no style. Looks like a bike reflector! People buy for style, besides tech, if there were phones in the 50's than this phone would be in style!! Very ugly!!
Retarded.
Jesus, this looks like a bad prop from some crappy 1950-60's SciFi movie. Flash Gordon alert. This phone does bear one useful feature. At least whenever I see one, I will know that the buyer is an absolute moron, without ever having to speak with them... or maybe it will give me an idea who to rob on the street! HAHAHA!
It is the Ford Edsel of phones. If you are dumb enough to buy one hold on to it. Should be a collectors item in about 20 years.
Another toy for the rich!
They have to be out there darn mind for 2,000. This phone must be able to eat, sleep and ----- for me. I can go get me a cheap little car for that price. It's all about show boating, oh I have a 2,000 phone...and by the way it doesn't do anything, but looks good....get da heck outta here
Its beautiful and very simple with a futuristic touch too. Its just too pricy.
Is this a joke?! First of all, by looking at this phone, and seeing its features I would pay... no more then $100, tops. Secondly, who wants a phone thats sapphire, silver and alumninum?! if thats what you care about go buy jewelry, because the last time I check this was a phone and people by phones for their features, not what they are made of. If Im going to spend 2 grand, its going to be on something worth it, not an ordinary cell phone that to me, isnt even appealing. This is crazy, motorola has lost their minds, I doubt anyone is going to buy this
Ugly phone for ugly rich people
What an asset. Welldone Motto. Pls be advised to take it to Nigeria National assembly in Abuja bcos am very sure the house of Rep. memebers and the senators will be falling over each other to buy it due to the ill gotten wealth they have aquired so far while other nigerian havent got a day meal to eat. What a Cell phone for Nigerian thiefs. Hazzan
