Motorola, still searching for its next RAZR-sized hit, announces the Aura, a new luxury mobile phone geared specifically for those with high-end tastes and even higher-end salaries.
Set for a December 4 release, the Aura, which carries a hefty $1,999, resurrects the sexy swivel design from Motorola's classic v70 and v80 handsets and combines it with a Rolex-like manufacturing process.
So, what exactly does two grand get you? A 16 million color, fully-circular LCD display (first ever in a cell phone, according to Motorola), a 62 Carat lens crafted out of sapphire for scratch resistance, a stainless steel exterior with etched designs that takes two weeks to fabricate, a Swiss-manufactured bearing for the swivel, 700+ individual components, PVD coating (similar to high-end watches), and an all aluminum keypad.
As for the tech specs, its not bad, but not anything special, either: Quad-band GSM/EDGE (No 3G), 2-megapixel camera, MPEG-4 video playback, MP3 and WMA decoding, Stereo Bluetooth, 2GB of internal storage, and an 810mAh battery.
There's no doubt about it: The Aura looks slick, sexy, and expensive, but the short tech features combined with the high price makes this a fit for only those waiting for their private jets to be refueled.

I know of an Attorney in S. Fl. that would complain about something only a few minutes after getting one. He's sorta the "Tim the tool man Taylor" of gadgets from what I've read. Don't ever ask him about Comcast.............yeesh!
I REPRESENT MOTORLA MADAGASCAR AND WOULD LIKE TO RECELVED A SAMPLE. ADRESSE IS MR MAURICE MAMET ALLE DES BOIS NOIRE LA PRENEUSE MAURITIUS ISLAND
Although I could probably buy the company, I wouldn't buy a cellular phone for $2000, besides a cellular phone at the end of the day is still a cellular phone. I am happy with my Blackberry and wouldn't trade it in for the world. Besides to me, over the years Motorola has fallen from grace with their cheaply made phones. NO THANK!!!
I like the design, but it doesn't have the features needed in today's mobile world.

looks great, but anyone who pays that much for a no feature phone will be insane....
wow and we wonder why Motorola's stock is in the dump. Who had the bright idea to make a $2,000 cell phone in this economy? Don't get me wrong I'm sure some one out there will probably feel like they have something to prove and still buy it. But does Motorola really think their are enough people out the with low self esteems. Its actually not a bad design I don't know why they don't make it for the regular folk.
In reality, a ROLEX only tells you the time . . . just like a TIMEX, that will often have the same or more features. It really is NOT about the features or looks at all - it is about the EGO, and no more. The manufaturer does not even have the best performance record or area coverage, but EGO does not care. The owner will need a backup carrier's phone in his pocket or car to use when he NEEDS signal/coverage. When it comes to ego, it never makes sense.
As we all noticed this phone has no style. I am sure it will sell in the middle East! Looks like an old fashion bike reflector !! If there were phones in the 50's than this style would fit in!! What a waste of technology! Trying to sell this phone as sexy? What is sexy about this??????
never to pay 1999.00 to talk on a phone! If you can afford that phone, you can afford to go see the people you need to talk to.
Honestly; do you think its ugly because you cant afford it? Personally I like it. If I had the money I would buy this thing. The etching on the front is authentic. The swivel opening is unique. I think that If you pulled that out of your pocket to answer A phone You would have people checking it out. I like it.
I like the concept of the exterior, but the shape has got to go! And I do agree that the tech specs are just a touch on norm side. It's not the most expensive phone I've seen. There are even some more crazily priced ones out there.
This is a great item...for those materialistic morons who have nothing better to do with $2,000.00!! What a JOKE!
I'VE always suspected Motorola is staffed with idiots; introducing a $2000 phone (so we can pop our brain like popcorn, no less) pretty much proves this. SHEESH!
no one will buy that phone becuase it is sooo expensive!!
Cheaper than my first flip phone that was 3500. I will probably get one, looks like it will be easy to carry.
It's elegant in it's simplicity.
Best phones on the market is the iphone and Blackberry!! What more do you need? Both phones has a simple clean style!
Lets be for real the only people who think the phone's ugly can't afford it.

The "wrapping" is pretty fancy, but "inside the package" is the standard junk. What moron would pay $2,000 ? ? ?
