Recession? What recession? According to new numbers out of the NPD group, consumers spent $1.31 billion on video games in the United States, resulting in an 18% jump year-over-year when compared to October 2007.
The Nintendo Wii lead the way again this month, by far, selling 803,210 units (doesn't everyone already own one?), up from 687,000 in September. Microsoft's Xbox 360 came in second, selling 371,000, up from 347,200 in September.
Sony was the odd one out this month, selling 190,000 units in October, down about 18 percentĀ when compared to September.
I personally thought this was going to be a huge, huge year for the Playstation 3, thanks to Blu-ray playback and several attractive bundles, but unless Sony decides to drop the price, it looks like I'll probably be wrong.
So, all of you out there, what console(s) do you own? What do you plan on buying for yourself or a loved one this holiday season? What are your predictions? Let me know in the comments below.

We really want Rock Band 2 for the Wii... so we may be going that route. Otherwise, we have Home Repair 1.0 and the ever popular follow up, Home Improvement 2.0. :)
We had the XBox 360 for a while now and nobody beats its graphics. We recently got a Wii, its been heck to find one, been looking for a long time, now that we have it, I'd say its the most fun of all the systems we own. Hopefully they'll start lowering the prices of the games for any system... 60 dollars and up per game is ridiculous.
My Xbox 360 died last February and thinking of getting another 360 this Christmas. Xbox is the most established console out in the market, it's a shame that the failure rate is very high. Nobody is perfect after all.
I bot the PS3 last year, and use it frequently; I bot the Wii 2 yrs ago, and use it frequently..... That $200 360 is startin' to look REAL good for Xmas...

I got my PS3 from Walmart for $299. From what I have seen that is a cheap price, considering what you get with it.
