Lexmark announced three new Professional Series all-in-one printers designed specifically for small office, home office users (SOHO). These new printers, otherwise known as the X4975, X6675, X7675, all offer Wi-Fi printing, high-yield cartridges in the box, two-sided printing, and a five-year warranty as standard features. Let's get into the nitty gritty on each device:
X4975: This printer is limited to three functions (print, copy, scan) but prides itself on its speed. 30 pages per minute black and 27 pages per minute color at 4800x2400 dots per inch makes this printer great for those who need high-res prints fast. Other features include front-sided memory card readers, a USB port for downloading directly to flash drives or printing directly from digital cameras, a 2.4-inch LCD screen, and Lexmark's simple, two-lined control panel. Expect this to hit retail around September for about $180.
X6675: The X6675 is the lowest cost printer out of these three, but it definitely isn't lacking in features. This device is a 4-in-1 (print, copy, scan, and fax) and features many of the same features as the X4975. However, this printer is missing the 2.4-inch LCD screen, it prints slower (25 pages per minute black, 18 pages per minute color), and prints at 4800x1200 DPI. If you need more function at a lower price, this printer is for you. Expect a September release as well at around $150.
X7675: If you want the best of both worlds, the high-end X7675 fits the bill for you. It's a 4-in-1 printer like the X6675 but also offers the fast printing speed and 2.4-inch LCD like the X4975. At $199 (only 20 dollars more over the X4976), this printer looks like it offers the most bang-for-the-buck (and is the apple of my eye) in the Professional Series of printers from Lexmark. Again, this is a September release, but if you're itching for one now, you can get one exclusively from Staples starting today.

The "nitty gritty" would be a bit more gritty if you'd compared the estimated cost of Lexmark's ink cartridges rather than just stating the cost of their printers. These companies are all following HP's philosophy... give away the printer, bankrupt 'em on refills. Of course, HP was just following Gillette's philosophy... give away the razor, bankrupt 'em for replacement slivers of sharpened metal.
