iPod & iTunes: AirPort-to-Stereo Analog Connection

If your stereo lacks a digital optical TOSlink input, use this option to connect AirPort Express to your stereo. It's quite similar to the method for connecting a sound card or USB audio device to a stereo.

  1. Connect the 1/8th-inch stereo plug on one end of a Y-cable ($5 at any electronics store) to the analog stereo output on the AirPort Express.
  2. Connect the other end, with the dual red and white RCA cables, to your stereo's Aux In jacks, or another open analog input (anything except for Phono).
  3. Select the input you used in step 2 on your stereo (most likely Aux In or Tape In).
  4. Assuming you've already set up the AirPort Express in iTunes, you can now play iTunes through your stereo.
